Should I build a backyard drop in with a rail? - Snowboarding Forum

Hello all.

Ive never boarded before, but it looks fun and challenging. I have a summer job and made some pretty nice money. With that being said, I was wondering if I should build a drop in and a rail for this upcoming season. The only thing is that since I have never boarded before, I dont know if I should or not. I could def. build it and I have the cash to. Just give me your opinion on this topic. OH! what board is good for a beginner who is : 6'1", 190lbs, and has shoe size of 12? What about bindings? Thank you

Hi. I'd wait to build the drop-in and the rail until you see if you actually like snowboarding. There's a lot to learn before you try rails. Give it a go at your local mountain first. Most mountains usually have some kind of park where you can try hitting rails. If you really like snowboarding and then like rails definitely build the drop-in, it's great practice. But I'd wait to build it until you're sure you like what you're doing.

As for boards, you'll probably want a "wide" board and something sized at least at 154cm. I learned on a $50 board that I actually still have. It was basically a big piece of wood with plastic on the top but it worked! Good luck!

uuhhh ya, defanitly wait until you know how to snowboard before you build a rail. Rails are intermediate/advanced features and skills. So hold off on the rail until you even ride on snow there turbo.

also for your first year you should hold off on buying the gear and rent the equipment. Nothing worse then spending at least $400 on new gear and not even like the sport.

I also vote for getting the feel of the sport then next year build a set up. It doesn't ride the same, more chance of injuries.
As we would more than likely see a very near future post " I F'd myself up on my new backyard jib set-up" video to follow.

Take your time and enjoy the sport you'll have a blast.
