It is exactly because it is expensive and their bang for their buck is pretty minimal. Plus I think the resort employees like to do other things at night, like drink beer and f&*#!

Some of my best memories of snowboarding are the night runs I took at Key. It was only my second season so I wasn't very good, lapped Schoolmarm the whole time. It was kind of surreal, having the whole mountain to myself, the only sound was from my edges cutting through the ice, it kind of echoed and at times I thought someone was right behind me lol. I literally caught last chair, and rode up the gondola with a group of patrollers that swept the mountain after me. Talking with those guys is what got me interested in the patrol to begin with.

I started on E coast, now ride midwest where i can. Most resorts i have been to have night runs, usually till 9:30 or 10. I have been looking at resorts out west for a trip and very few offer it. I dont know why these podunk hills would offer it and major resorts not. I found that weird. That said, groomers have always been lit, no moonlighting for me, though i would love it. Even with lights, it is hands down my favorite time to do it. I have been on many runs, there is not one person on the lift line, nobody within 4 chairs in front or behind me. When i am on the hill, i do not see even one other person sometimes. There is nothing like it. Man i am having withdrawls. I think my first trip will be about the second week of december. I am licking my chops.

Night riding is pretty cool if the ice doesn't set in too bad. Depends on day time temps, snow fall and all that.
The Vancouver hills, Seymour, Cypress and Grouse are all open til something like 10pm all week mid-season. It is super dope being able to shred after work, feel really lucky. Yee-gads i'm looking forward to this season!

I know everything around me is open till 10:00pm every night except sunday.

We even have a couple days a season given the conditions arent bad that they run the lifts till 3 or 4 in the morning, shut down for an hour and a half to groom everything then reopen. I've never been to one of these but I hear they are pretty popular! given the time of day atleast.

I do a lot of night riding at my local hill because days and weekends can be tough between work and family.

If it's snowing it can be great because we just duck some ropes and hit some in-bounds tree areas that are closed at night and don't have lights. The moon and lights on the hill provide enough visibility and the snow hasn't been touched for hours.

Last year one of my best powder days was a weeknight after work....the snow wasn't as good as the early chairs on other days, but having the snow to ourselves for 3 hours made it almost as good.

Someone I just met (works for my wife's BFF's boyfriend) was a "lifty" he says at Squaw. Said the exact same thing. He says he keeps contacts there, will take us and get us freshies in the morning, snake a walkie talkie to find out which lifts are opening when etc.
