Riding by moonlight

This is something I have wanted to do for a while now. Last year I was planning on it but didn't get the right weather.
Not BC, that would be too dangerous. I am planning to strap by board on my back and walk the 8km along beginner trails (less steep) up to the summit of my favored resort. Will be with a friend as 2 is safer.

It will have to be clear low winds and close to a full moon so we can see.

I just think it will be magical cruising down silently in the moonlight. No one else around.

Anyone done this?

i'd feel safer doing it in the bc personally. no snocats or other machinery

Lots of folks do it around here, infact my daughter and friends are starting to plan doing it on a full moon in bc.

If its clear with a full moon you would have no problem seeing machinery or anything big.
I often swim at the river on the full moon (summer) and you see very well. I thought the BC would be too dangerous because if someone falls into a crack or tree well you will struggle to find them or get help at night.
Anyway good to know people are doing this.

Full moon you will be golden. The moon reflects so good off of the snow as long as it is a clear night. Always a super fun time for sure.

my local resort does night skiing for about half of the season, they light up most of the front side and part of one of the back sides...i have to say it is one of the coolest/freakiest experiences you can do while boarding. It was a weekday night so were pretty much the only ones on the backside of the mountain. It is a wild feeling cruising through the tree glades with only the smallest bit of light getting in through the trees from the lights on the run, then you pop out into the eerie amber lift lights and ride the incredibly long sketchy 2 man chairlift up into what seems like endless darkness. VERY fun!

in highschool we would take a long weekend trip to resort here in MN. It was always a staple of the trip to get shmamed on jag-bombs on saturday night then go for a couple moonlight laps(in just our boxers) on this green run right next from the condo we were staying in. Good Times

Haven't done it at a ski area but have at Berthoud Pass in CO once under a full moon and it was awesome! We only hiked up a little ways in very low avalanche danger conditions. Just go slow because your depth perception will be off a bit.

Im a noob from the east coast, but my first taste of snowboarding was in Vail where I learned the first time. I never understood why Vail doesnt do night riding? Is it very expensive? Why wouldnt a resort want to charge more for a night shift and make that extra money?
