Post Using a soft rack to carry snowboards

Hey, a question. A few people I know surf and most use soft racks to get their boards to the beach. They are the pads that sit on your roof tie through the cabin and tie around your baord(s)

I know for they go over the speed limit and attest to no problems whatsoever. So I was thinking. Why could you not use these for snowboards? (Less surface area to create lift)
