Android Users

So, long story short i'm a senior Software Engineering student this year graduating in December.

I am taking an Android programming class as one of my final courses, and for our 6 week project I decided to do a GPS tracking type program specifically for ski/snowboarding.

I know some apps exist, both for iPhone and Android, the idea isn't necessarily to come up with a new app idea...it is only 6 weeks single development, and learning as i go...but its something im interested in learning and should be fairly complex.

So i come to you brethren of the snow, for feedback from those that have used these apps. Apps like Ski Tracks for Iphone, or even Run Keeper for Android...

What apps have you used?
What did you not like?
What did you like?
What features would you find most useful in an app like this?

My idea's for features
-Gps map tracking on Google Maps(obvious)
-Camera pic's tagged with Geo location
-Stats, Distance, Max Speed, Vertical Feet, etc
-Local Weather Conditions from NOAA

What features would you find most useful in an app like this? I like your idea. (snow conditions, weather)

You can already some/most of that with Googles My tracks: distance, speed, gps tracking, average speed, average moving speed, track vertical feet on timeline, max/min feet, and overlay on satellite map.

I use it when I hike and ride. great app really don't have any complaints.

Camera and weather would be new bundled in... but honestly I have other apps that perform those functions

Yea, My Tracks is pretty awesome i gotta say...I am more or less looking to do something similar to that, but see if theres anything else useful people would like.

Who knows if this is ever going to get released lol, its to get course credit and learning experience on the Android platform first and foremost

If you're app resembles mytracks, then you'll do just fine. It's the best GPS app for snowboarding I've used. RunKeeper is better for it's intended purpose, running.

Oh yeah!? Well, my mom says I'm cool!

I think the one thing that gps apps are missing are actual trail maps. If you could not only show me on the trail map but also other people with the same app that would be really useful.

The REI snow report app has trail maps for the resorts in it. However, it does not have any GPS tracking. Actually, if you combined the REI app and the mytracks app into one super app, then you would have something really great IMO.
