dying with the Polar Bears!

This season has absolutely been driving me nuts! Itís December 21st and Iím sitting at work wearing a short sleeve shirt, all of the local North East mountains are getting dumped onÖ by rain and this season just doesnít seem to be going anywhere. Now I know I live in the North East and we canít expect too much but what about seasonal weather? Iím not asking for 3 ft of snow but dam frost on my windshield would go a long way. This is just stupid.. and Iím thinking is snowboarding just a dying sport? The sport that we all love and have enough passion for to spend hours of our day responding to every Union Force question and every NS review is it just slowly disappearing? I can only speak for my part of the country but I have been out west before this time a year and it has been way better then what it looks like now. So whatís going on near you? Is this the slow death of the glorious white winters weíve come to love?

Its a bad year, last year was one for the record books, today is the first day of winter and we have no snow, but they are saying its suppose to hit next month, a few years ago in Tahoe we had a really slow start, then it dumped in January and we were above normal for snow fall, every year is gunna be different, I think we all got spoiled last year and now will compare every year to the 10-11 season, which doesn't come around often.

It's called la nina. The weather pattern this year doesn't feature the "greenland block" that helps draw cold air down from canada into the US, allowing the warm air to stick around. Also, it's been pretty dry out west as well. Though it has been cold, I just returned from Beaver Creek, CO, and there's only about an 18 inch base and a little less than half of the mountain is still closed. I really wouldn't say that snowboarding is a dying sport, that's just ridiculous, but this winter for sure has been disappointing so far. Just remember, we still have 3 months of winter left... things can change very quickly.
