Default Burn Out?

I think we all have experienced those frustrating days where you just aren`t on top of your game. Mine was today! I went up to ride; planning on staying for night riding since I was off the schedule for teaching. I rode for 5 hours and got a lot of runs in, but all day long I felt awkward and my riding was just not up to normal par. The conditions were kind of crappy with rough, bumpy ice and everything was just super firm. The snow was`nt full on ice which would have been easier, it was this super hard powder crust that was grabby...you would cut through and get in a self made edge rut that took effort to get back out of and when doing spins, there was no forgiveness for not being dead on with the landings....edge catch time.
So at 4:00 PM I went to my truck to switch to different gloves and night gogles and instead just said "fuck it" and came home. I think I am just burnt out and needed a day off....ever get to that point where you just don`t feel like riding even though there is the opportunity...am I just so obsessed with snowboarding that I don`t know how to take a break?

im not a great rider but when i go out i ride for atleast 7 to 8 hours.. im obsessed i admit it. however alot of times i push myself all day. at the end of the day or night, my legs are just not reacting the way i want them to. I usually notice this a little earlier on and push through it. however there is always that last run where i am scared shit and that is when i know its time to call it a day. no matter how much fun im having i can not continue because my body is just not doing what i want so its better to be safe then sorry..
i am bad with taking breaks to, my lunch turns into me inhaling my food so i can get back on the mountain. A break doesn't last more then 5 min also lunch takes about 30 min for me lol

There is a mental componate to every thing you do. Sometimes if your head just ins't in the right place, it's good to walk away for awhile. I don't equate this with per se burnout. To me, that seems to last for a longer period of time. Give a few days, do something else you have fun doing, and all will be fine.

Did that today. Yesterday was great with lots of fresh powder and had a really great day of riding. Stayed up at Mary Jane and decided to head home rather than ride today. There was no new snow overnight, so I just did not feel like going. The days that I have had this year that I did not really improve or enjoy were days when conditions were not great and it was a bit crowded. I plan on getting another 10-15 days in this year, but I do try to go when the conditions are good...Ben

I know exactly what you are talking about snowolf. There are some days that for one reason or another I just ride shitty. Ive had it happen a couple times this season. I aso noticed that If you take a fall in the terrain park your more likely to fall again on that run. I guess you lose some confidence by falling and dont go a 100% on the next jump/rail. Anyone else here ever get that.

The only time I've felt like that was my first few runs down a black...I wasn't prepared for it mentally and basically rode the whole thing down on my ass, which destroyed my confidence and messed with my head the rest of the day.

Now I'm obsessed and can ride from open to close even if my body is tired...and my friends are the ones who want to leave early.

I think it depends on where and how often you ride for sure. I personal don't go as much as I did in the early part of the season...I don't spend time in park or on the groomers for the most part. So if I know it is going to be hard to find fresh snow in the trees or the conditions are really crusty, I just prefer to not ride at this point...However this year has been fresh snow almost every time I have gone and I think March is going to much of the same. You guys that ride from start to finish, I am impressed. After about 4 hours of runs in powder and I am beat...I went from 830-1pm yesterday and on the last run I was feeling it for sure....

Yeah, I work on snow from open till close so I guess this day I just was`nt all that into it. I was more interested in dinner and a movie I guess. I still got 4 hours of solid riding in though. My riding was just off and it kept pissing me off so I left early. What sucks is then I felt guilty for not staying untill closing.
