SO my brother got a job in Vancouver and is moving there at the end of the month. As soon as I heard this I got all excited and went online and booked a flight out there for me and my wife in March $318+tax ($477). So now I want to know from the people out there how reasonable is it to drive from vancouver to Whistler everyday to snowboard. How much will it cost is gas? I there a cheap motel close to whistler (super 8 or thrift lodge, etc) Ideally I would like to do this for 4 days and then spend the other 3 or 4 days in vancouver (cypress or seymour). Thanks.

the drive is beautiful, the highway got redone for the olympics. If I drive aggressively, I'll make vancouver - whistler in less than 1hr 15 minutes in summer, otherwise expect a good 2hrs in snow, its roughly 300km round trip… No cheap hotels that I know of, most of the hotels right now are 180$+ a night .. you might wanna stay in squamish, might be cheaper but you're still an hour away. If you drive a gas guzzler, gas will be around 40/50$ there and back, I drive a TDI and its about 20$ …
best bet is to wake up around 5am, drive early to skip traffic on lions gate, and you'll get there by 8am, suit up and be on the lift by 9. Board all day, the mountain closes at 3:30. Drive home, and you should be back in Van around 5, to hit traffic, and then expect another 2 hrs of that, and be home by 7. Go to bed, repeat. cypress, seymour, grouse, is close by, day tix are around 45$+, most offer night riding for cheaper and are open till 10pm … hope that helps.

Baker is in the other direction, about the same driving distance, less traffic...except the abbotsford/sumas boarder is the unknown, i'd imagine motels in abbortsford are less, lower lift price and not a mall scene.

Like others have said, bring your passport and def hit baker as well!! That has been my choice lately, whissy is too expensive, but here's the deal, go to baker your first day, cross the sumas border, 15 min wait in morning, it's the same drive distance, the road is shittier than whissy but still nice enough. Fill up gas at a shell, and ask for the 2 for 1 deal for whistler, then the next day drive to whistled and save some money.
Baker shouldnt cost you more than 170$ for 2 people lunch, gas included. Whistler will cost you close to 290$ for 2 people gas, lunch included.
