Pole-swinging skier charged with assault

A 45-year-old Katy, Texas, resident who allegedly confronted two brothers and a sister on the Keystone ski slopes has been charged with fighting in public and second-degree assault.
The Texas skier has been identified as Jie Zhang. He allegedly began swinging his ski poles at one of the brothers who came close to running into him on a beginner's run at the resort.
Paulette Horr, spokeswoman for the Summit County Sheriff's Department, said the 19-year-old boy didn't collide with Zhang during the March 9 incident.
After being confronted, the 19-year-old, a Colorado resident, skied downhill to call the ski patrol from an emergency phone. He looked back up the hill, said Horr, and saw Zhang swinging a pole at his 16-year-old brother.
He hiked up the hill to help his brother and stayed with him until the ski patrol arrived. The brothers' 22-year-old sister had stayed with the 16-year-old in an attempt to help him, said Horr.
Both brothers were hurt by the ski poles, and Zhang also was injured, although Horr didn't know how.
The patrol took all the parties to Keystone Medical Center, where Summit County deputies responded to a disturbance call.
Horr said the details of the incident were corroborated by an off-duty Goshen, Wyo., deputy sheriff who witnessed the incident.
Zhang was arrested and released later in the evening.
A charge of second-degree assault is a Class 4 felony punishable by a fine of $2,000 to $500,000 and the possibility of two to six years in prison.
The charge of "disorderly conduct, fight in public" is a Class 3 misdemeanor punishable by a minimum sentence of a $50 fine and a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a fine of $750.
Zhang's first court appearance is set for April 2.

I visited Vail at the beginning of the season and other resorts in the area. But I found snowboarders to be a minority and the slopes were mostly ruled by skiers. We asked a local skier to directions on how to get to blue sky fast and his response was "I am one of the best skier in the world and I do not help snow boarders, as far as I am concerned you guys are invading my space and ruining my snow. Make sure you stay out of my way, bye" We stayed calm as there were young one with us, plus I did not feel to sinking to his level. Now, I am not a skier hater since most of our group skies, but there some people out there that really have no respect for each other.
I noticed that Vail was the resort with most skiers over snow boarders in Summit, I wonder why that is.

I Hate Assholes on the Mt. Im one of the people that like to have a good time but not fuck with others, If I knock someone down I stop ask them if they are ok and I will help them if they need it, and I expect the same thing from others. But what that guy said to you Simply^Ride I would of told him to go Fuck Himself and if I saw him I the slopes I would get in his way, and Fuck Him ruining his snow everyone payed for a ticket so Its everyones snow for the day! With the story on top I would of toke my board off and beat the asshole with it, screw calling someone, kick his ass he is hitting your brother I would kill him!

Hm...if I come close to someone, I try to at least give them a heads up if I can...but jeez.
But then again, being next to someone going down a hill and just saying excuse me...tneds to freak some of the newer people out.

Wow, what an asshole that guy was to you. I would have made a mission to make his day a living hell if I ever saw him on the mountain after that. I hate pricks that have such arrogance. I'm always trying my best to avoid hitting others, and if I do, I want to help out. I'm also friendly with anyone who I run into on the mountains, be it boarder or skier. What's with these assholes and all that pointless hate?
