Any concerns of the LCD cracking in your jacket pocket while carving?? I know I had an SD200 couple years ago and the LCD cracked being padded by a soft case in my backpack!

No problems w/ the LCD cracking so far but I only gave it to my wife at Christmas and we've only been taking it boarding since. Not a lot of time to test it, but we have been on the hill on a couple of -40 windchill days.

If you'll be shooting all day in the extreme cold, take an extra battery if possible. Once those rechargeables get really cold the juice gets sucked out of them pretty quickly. Keep the spare close to your body to keep it relatively warm.

I've never done cold weather film shoots - any issues with that? I'm not thinking there would be any but ya never know. I have an old FM2n I bought a year back and about 10 rolls of Velvia I'd like to put to good use sometime.
Funny story, it's been so long since I used a film camera that the first roll I took last year I ended up loading the wrong way and wasted it...had a nice picture of a beautiful lady at the RenFest too...big bummer.

TNT, shooting film in cold weather isn't much different than it is with digital. You should let your camera acclimatize to the cold for 30-60 minutes before shooting (or keep your car cold on the drive over so the camera doesn't go from hot to cold quickly) and keep your spare motor drive, flash, and camera batteries in an inside pocket like you said above. While the surface of the film is slightly susceptible to fogging being plastic, it isn't as bad as the lenses. If your lenses don't fog then you should be alright.

I had a Canon 30D with a 15mm Wide, 70-200 zoom last season. But I no longer work there full time to warrant access. Boo-Hoo. My Wife and I have a Canon Rebel, with an $80 70-200 zoom. (Garbage) You get what you pay for in Glass!

Thanks for the heads up Shepherd.
The only battery I'll have to worry about is the light meter battery. Everything else is all manual. Crank and Click
I'll definitely give it a shot next season (no pun intended). All I have for the FM2n is a 50 prime, but that's just about my favorite focal length anyways (I know...boring boring boring...). I am still debating whether or not to get an external light meter - I hear they're a significant improvement as far as accuracy once you've got your camera dope dialed in right and I doubt I'll be able to replace the mercury battery or whatever the heck my old nikon uses for its built in meter.
As far as film scanners go, what's one that's worth the coin? I'm willing to go relatively high end if it's going to last and be a valuable asset as far as saving my images goes.
All this film talk reminds me that I'll have to start learning how to load/use sheet film as I might be picking up an old rollei MF in about 2 months. I've never used any MF camera before.

Suburban, thanks for the link, some really quality stuff there. Too bad you don't have access to the 30D anymore. You are so right about quality glass.

TNT, when I was shooting negatives the high end Nikon Coolscans couldn't be beat for producing quality film scans. I'm not sure about now, but that's a good place to start. I have a Epson flatbed scanner, but while it is high end for a flatbed, it doesn't get near the quality as the coolscans. Congrats on the rollei, you'll have fun with it I'm sure.
