So I've been recently forced upon the knowledge that this season I might not be heading out west. The weather here isn't all that great (Tennessee) for snowboarding, and I NEEEEEEDDDD to get a few great days in, i've been a terrible total of 1 day so far this season.
Any suggestions on where I could go get a great few days without needing that full day of acclimation like you need out in CO, or at least somewhere that you can go to get some sick conditions to make the first day of waiting worth it? Lastly, it would preferably not be too expensive/ too much traveling (shuttling, etc.) My plans this season were supposed to be me and 3 other friends going out to Snowmass/ Aspen, but it looks like me and the GF are the only ones able to go, and now that she is getting into the busy season at work we will have to get it all done in a 3-4 day period. |

do you know that you need time to acclimate to the altitude? i took a 3 day trip to utah 2 weeks ago and had a great time. i guess i was a little more tired the first day, but i was also using a lot of energy to swim out of waist deep snow. and there was a ton of snow and the resorts are close to the airport.

Head out to SLC, altitude isn't as gnarly as CO (max about 11k summits at Snowbird IIRC) and you can get to most resorts within 40 minutes of the airport. Take an early flight and be shredding before lunch.

I'd either go to Utah for the convenience of getting there, or roll the dice and hit up Washington. Best conditions in the US are in Washington state right now. Baker is world class and is a snowboarding mecca. More storied than just about anywhere except Tahoe.
For three days though I'd probably lean towards Utah. |

I hadn't thought of Utah yet because I have a buddy who said the acclimation there for him was more crucial than in co.
Thanks for all of the hints. Not sure how the gf feels about possibly sleeping in a van or suv. I think that would be for next year with me and a friend. I was planning a cool trip to a ton of the pnw mountains, with some sweet time at whistler. Are there any good places I could go an get a room without reservations in Utah, or Washington? |

tons of hotels in Sandy/Midvale/Cottonwood Heights or even downtown SLC which puts you within 30-45 minutes of most mountains in UT.

i stayed at the super 8 in midvale and just made reservations earlier in the day that we got there. it was like $60 or $70 a night and wasn't bad at all. i recommend going to brighton if you go that route. i enjoyed it there the best.

There's the usual motels in Bham...no reservations needed, about 70 minutes from the hill. Leave at 7am for a leisurely drive up for opening chair at 9 to 4 and back in town at 5:30 pm.
7-Day Forecast for Latitude 48.86N and Longitude 121.68W (Elev. 4264 ft) mmmmmm so there....Fri and Sat.
