Default It's the final meltdown....

With temps now above +10 celcius, and warmer temps forecast for next week, up to +17c, the late, but excellent snowfall we had here in Austria the last 2 months is steadily melting away. Except for a few of the north facing slopes, the rest of the mountain is one big pile of slush. I was out riding yesterday, in a T-shirt (in February), at least I had my jacket on, but took it off while still riding, and continued down the very wet slopes with gloves off and jacket slung over shoulder. Now there is some snow forecast for this weekend, but how much is anybodies guess, however, the temps are set to remain high. Could this be it? I hope not, but with 26 days out, riding 180 lifts and over 500km of slopes, I think I have done well enough. I know these numbers as the electronic key card system logs all your lifts, but it only takes an educated guess at which runs you might have taken. Either way, I will raise a toast to the season! It has been good, so far.

So, how is the season going in your part of the world?

I think that I can speak on behalf of many here in the U.S. and say that this winter has been total shit. Even worse for those of us on the east coast. I don't have a card that keeps track of how many times I got out, but I am pretty sure I can count the times with only the fingers on my two hands.

Regardless, I enjoyed the minimal amount of time I had out there although I could see more grass and dirt on the mountain than snow on most occasions.

I hope March will bring cold and snow, but I think it may be a pipe dream.

Here in the Mid West it wasn't much better. All of our snow is man made.
I did get tons of riding days in though, 30 ish, but the conditions were absolutely horrible at best on some of those days. Still good to be out though.

Last night we were supposed to get a dusting and got 5" of wet snow, temps are only 30* today so hitting the hill before it melts. Calling for 45* tomorrow, so much for a epic cold/snow winter.

15cm last night, 10cm today. Not epic but snow is snow. Not sure how long it will last though.

Ok, when I said it's the final meltdown, I think I might have meant it as a question, in other words: Is this the final meltdown? Well, things are melting, but in lower south facing areas. The Kamikaze powder bowl is facing south, to the left of those 2 skiers, but it is higher up, I just went there yesterday and took these pics, it was good, but the lower I got, the wetter it got, but I can still get all the way down to the Apré ski bar...
This area is Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, 3 towns within spitting distance decided to stop competing and joined forces.

Final meltdown? In February? Not a chance, mate. Last season, granted, was shit in Europe (and I mean shit) but this season has been excellent so far. The reason it's so hot in Europe atm is due to a "blocking high" that's restricting the flow of cold air. The latest forecasts are showing colder and snowier weather from around 6/7March. I've been in Switzerland during early April and had a foot of fresh to play around in.

There's a LOT of good riding to be had yet. Depending on where you are in Austria, some resorts will be open until April/May -- and places like Hintertux are open all summer.

Enjoy it man.

Jeez, it feels as if it's just getting rolling here in the PNW.

Yea, when I figure out how to post pics, I will show just how much is still around. I also don't think it's over. The fat lady took centre stage, but got booed off before she could open her mouth.
