Moguls

So it snowed here in Toronto on Friday and decided to go up to Blue Mountain on Saturday morning. By the time I got there a million people had already been on the hills but it was still the best I have experienced. My only issue was that all the intermediate runs had what looked like moguls. Now do these moguls form by them selves when people ski/board on fresh snow or is this a Blue Mtn thing? I don't mind moguls but sometime I just want to ride down a smooth hill.

Skiers make moguls, period.

Skier carving makes them and skiers love them for some reason.

I hate them

Fuck moguls. But I'm getting better at them.

Find some groomed runs and enjoy.

The moguls should still be soft enough for you to cut through. If not, you should invest in a mogul lesson. I know most snowboarders hate moguls, but I ever since I started taking mogul lessons, I avoid groomed slopes and look for the bumps. I should just take up skiing.

Its not the moguls necessarily but the ice in between. See all the snow piles up on top of the moguls and in between is ice. Which makes it hard to turn on.

Yes, moguls can be deceiving. The snow might look soft, and the bumps might not look too big, but as soon as you enter the scrapped up mogul mine-field your legs freeze up and you are going down heel-side the whole way. I usually only do moguls for the few days after a nice storm, and never when it hasn't snowed in a while.

Pretty much this. Soft moguls of fresh snow aren't that bad. But a few nights of hard freezes and they become the rock hard ice moguls of death. It sucks how much great terrain at resorts is ruined by moguls.
