Steamboat May Not Make It To Closing Day - Snowboarding Forum

Looks like Steamboat is going to stay open until at least Tuesday but It's questionable if they can stay open until it's pre-planned closing day next Sunday.

The Salt Lake City resident was ready to board for as long as he could near the end of Steamboat Springs' ski season that could end prematurely this year.
Steamboat Ski Area officials said this afternoon that they are confident the lifts will continue shuttling skiers up Mount Werner until at least Tuesday. But then the mountain's fate will become a day-to-day assessment, and it isn't known yet whether the ski area will make it to Closing Day next Sunday.

Does anyone remember a time where ski resorts had to shut down early in Colorado or is this the first in recent history?

There's talk of closing beav this week early too.

Also, some of the long time locals I work with said it happened around 25-30 years back they started up and downloading in vail and closed a week or so early....

aside from going in the trees it is ridable from top to bottom..... I wouldnt go down any blacks with all the rocks and mud holes where moguls used to be. I was at wolf creek today for closing day and they had decent snow.... the first part of the morning until about 1130 was groomed corn.... it was freakin great. I made one run in a tshirt and had one wipeout for the day and got some nice snow burn on the elbows, lol

I will go up tomorrow at about 11am until 2pm before work here in vail for some slushy greatness
