7th season going strong - decided to get out of Europe and head to 'BC' to check out whistler.
Myself and a few mates booked our week from the 8th to the 15th January Coming from the UK so only a 10 hour flight. Staying at Blackcomb lodge, any reviews appreciated ? Got a sweet package deal Cannot wait to hit the slopes !! Best runs ? Locals runs ? Nightlife ? Anyone going around that time hit me up.... As much info would be good thanks...

On a pow day... Peak to creek is insane.. also I highly reccomend getting the first tracks breakfast. Order before getting there cuz it will sell out. It will get u on the mountain an hour before everyone else plus breakfast included. For like $25 . Worth it if it snows the night before

Definitely do the peak to creek run but don't waste it on a powder day. On powder days stay at the top of the mountain in the high alpine and the bowls on the whistler side, or blackcomb glacier. Seventh heaven is a must do as well. Symphony and harmony also great. |

Get a map, Whistler & Blackcomb are fuckin' huge.
Figure out where you want to go based on skill & terrain, use the map to get there. I've been there maybe 20 times, so I know the mtns a little bit, but even now when I go I grab a map. If you don't know where you want to go, you'll get funneled into boring runs that everyone else who has no idea where they are going are on. These runs are super boring, crowded & icy as fuck. A sweet run for your last run of the day is the Dave Murry Downhill, it's a Giant slalom race course where you can go as fast as you can. There are no hairpins or other obstacles so you can tuck & bomb the whole thing start to finish. I can pretty much guarantee it will be the fastest you've been to date on a board. TT

I'll be going to Whistler sometime in March for the first time.
I snagged this from another thread awhile back. Actually, I think Grafta may have posted it. You need the Google Earth Plugin. 3D Map of Whistler I look at this every morning before I start my work day. |

Knee Deep Productions presents Whistler Guide Books
these books are really excellent - there's an advanced one and an intermediate one, buy them early, they are fun to read and I find that they really get you stoked for a trip an earlier poster made an excellent point, as did a friend of mine who is local - you can get a lot of great laps in before the high alpine opens, don't waste that time, if the high alpine is closed it's probably because it snowed and mid moutain there will be lots of good runs to be had also there's a whistler app for iphone/ipad, very handy, shows what lifts are open, grooming conditions and other stuff. Like Clarion I look at it every day before work here in Toronto. |
