So the lady and I currently live in Boston MA. Great town, fun, young, lots of stuff to do but we've been on the east all our lives and we're getting antsy. We both work full time, she in healthcare, myself in engineering/architecture.

We've gotten the ball rolling on possibly cutting town by September 2013. We have a few ideas of where we'd like to be but don't know for sure because we'd ideally like a place that will allow us to work in our chosen careers but also be close to the mountains. We've done some preliminary research but don't know enough about the cities/towns and even the neighborhoods we should be looking at. We're both mid-late twenties and again, would like to be in a place with similar-minded folks.

So far, on the docket:

Denver
Park City
Salt Lake

Any other recommendations? I hear Denver is just like any other city, obviously.

San Fran is a great place to be as a young perfessional. You have access to more than you could ever imagine. There were days when I could Surf in the morning, go work (an easy day), then head out to the mtns. and get some night boarding in. Alot of really good memories for my wife and me.

What are some of the other activities that you like to do outside and in a city? This will help narrow down possiblities even better and give better details of those above mentioned places.

Oh man...everything? We hike and backpack quite a bit. I dabble in rock climbing and mountain biking.

We're both very active recreationally and socially, meaning that we'd both like a place where we can make friends, go out on weekends, etc, etc. Again, I'm interested in the neighborhoods just as much as the cities. Living in Boston has spoiled us because virtually everything we need is no more than a 10 minute walk away. Not to say that we're against living outside of a city, but we're definitely not ready to purchase a home yet and move to the suburbs.

We would be renting.

We both have cars, and we both like our cars, if that means anything.

Bottom line? We're a young, active couple. Career focused but who cherish the outdoors and our lives outside the workplace. We're looking for something new, essentially.

The rockclimbing and Mountain biking near and around Denver is world class. There is that. Plenty of backpacking to last a life time. The drive to the mountains is about 90 minutes to most resorts. Weekends are a shit show on I70 though. Contrary to my post, it does snow in Colorado, we are just in the second season in a row of little to no snow fall. It actually looks like it might change starting this weekend, but then again I am not holding my breathe. If it comes through like the forecasters are starting to say, the season could very well be just fine this year.

Maybe not "everything". But when you are picking a place it's important to know a little bit of detail. For instance. Denver isn't just about Denver. The whole front range can have a different vibe.
Boulder climbing; Fort Collins, brewery's and biking, Colorado Springs, biking and hiking.

One really important consideration should be politcial leanings. There is a big difference say from Salt Lake City to different parts of the Denver area.

Of course if you like beer, Colorado is the only choice if comparing with Utah.

Political leanings? Really? I've never been overly opinionated when it comes to my political stance but is there more of a focus on politics out west than there is in the northeast?

Random question, but how is Boulder compared to Salt Lake and Durango?
