first off: i love what these guys are doing, but i thought this vid was lacking. camera work is just so-so when compared to all the big-budget stuff we get to see these days (i realize these guys aren't TGR/redbull funded and all that, but still)

the riding is ok, but there was too much time-lapse stuff, and not enough narration. they should have told more of a story about why/how they were up there, maybe highlight more of the provo bros lifestyle and what motivates them to live the lives they do - especially when the riding isn't really in the JJ/X/Trice echelon (i also realize that some people may prefer the omitting of this stuff)

i don't really have any desire to watch skiers in a 'snowboard' vid.

the steelhead fishing they did was pretty meh. all fish in that vid looked like they were caught on bobbers... as a steelheader i understand how hard these fish can be to get into so i understand why people bobber fish them on fly rods, but i wouldn't put a bobber caught fish on vid like its some shit...inferior to fish caught on a swung fly on every level. you pretty much have to be a steelhead flyfisherman to know what i'm talking about here, but even trout guys should get what i'm talking about.

The Provo guys have always been about both skiing and snowboarding. They are not making just Snowboard movies. As far as Alaska goes, I am pretty sure this was their first time riding lines like that. If they keep returning, they are probably going to get much better at it. Those places are the definition of steep learning curve.

I don't really know a whole hell of a lot for the fishing. Seemed like a nice bookend to what they did.

Their desert video is still my favorite, but this one is pretty fine. Shows you what the layman can do with some motivation.

a big part of it too is that these guys are on a skeleton crew and budget compared to the big dogs. i understand and applaud this.

i think my biggest gripe is that i was left feeling a little left out of the loop after i watched this. what else happened up there? what was the journey? challenges? fears? decisions?

a little narration would have gone a long way. tell me a story.

good video.. I enjoyed the timelapse and scenery shots a lot, what a cool adventure, throw in some fishing for salmon or steelhats and you got me hooked!.. a bike to charge up electronics is a killer idea too! loved that..
on the fishing note, float and jig is a go to here in washington amongst gear chuckers fishing for steelhats, the fly guys sometimes use the striker indicators and small jigs as well.. on another note, worst combo ever = split boarders and fly fishermen. not all, but some..
fly guys are the worst at acting douchey and elite.. kinda like whats going on here in this thread.. A weighted fly under a float is legit to many fly guys.. the steelhat had to hit it, it wasn't snagged or flossed.. legit! why not show that? i freaking love fishing and all techniques of it.. fish is a fish.. is a fish..

you can think i'm a douchebag but the fact is a swung fly for winter steelhead is straight up spiritual. it is zen. using bobbers to get at them easier is legit. people do it, i do it too - but to me it doesn't mean as much.

i flyfish for steelhead because it is harder than other methods. it takes more practice to learn it and to be good at it and it is harder and for me more fun to land fish on a flyrod. maybe that makes me a douchebag but its a fact. i've caught fish pretty much every other way too and if i was just in it for meat or something i'd fish bait and gear, but that isn't why i fish. i also didn't choose to fly fish to make it easier and when you hit up steelhead on a fly with a bobber instead of swinging for them its to get into them easier - nothing really wrong with it, i guess i shouldn't be talking shit... but they were fondling swinging flies in their box and then showing bobber hook-ups.

i don't give a fuck how anyone else fishes as long as they aren't snagging or gillnetting or something like that - if you have more fun doing something else then great, go at it... but don't try and tell me that chucking a spinner or taking a lift to ride controlled terrain takes just as much dedication or skill - because it doesn't. it isn't about elitism, just facts

Your questions I thought were answered from the movie. Here is what I saw.

what else happened up there? Chris Coulter bailed after a HUGE FUCKING Avy. The snow went to shit, but they got some rad shots for their first time (?) without a Heli in AK.

what was the journey? They drove from Utah to AK, pretty badass if you ask me.

challenges? Snow, terrain, snow, warm temps, charging batteries with a bike.

fears? snow. steep vertical spines.

decisions? Ride big spine lines. pull the plug when shit hit 70F at base camp?

sick video and I think it blew away Further, (except for the riding, lines and snow). Music rocked, great shots.
