I am 6'4 and proportional and I just look like a space cadet while wearing a helmet. I usually do not ride with a helmet but this season I am thinking of going HAM in the park.
Yeah, dude don't worry. I was at Beaver Creek this weekend and some buddies and me had a big discussion on the subject...and in the end we all came to the same conclusion that any boarder/skier without a helmet has become the more oddball look. I mean pretty much any board I know with more than a few years of experience, has a helmet.
The Smith Maze a super duper light weight and really low profile helmet. Get one with a Matte color finish, and you you look great. I am warmer with a helmet.
my riding buddy thanks me for getting him to wear a helmet, a couple years ago hauling ass in some fresh at Stevens Pass backside, he got squirrely and hit a tree head first, he was a little dizzy, but looking at his helmet closer showed that it was completely split in half from his forehead to the top.
Originally I bought one because I had two young kids, but now that I've been wearing one for approx 10 years, the biggest reason I like riding with a helmet is because, when you go over the bars and start cartwheeling, your goggles dont move or end up flying off of your head only to never be seen again
I rode with a K2 Rant all last season and felt like a storm trooper every time I threw it on. Two weeks back, I stopped in my local shop, tried on a Bern Watts and was blown away at the difference in fit and profile. I was sold.
I just had my Bern Baker jacked from Sauveur in Quebec, I ordered another on the next day, they are my favorite so far. Warm enough on the cold days, cool enough on the warm days.
I've had the same GIRO 9 for 10 years (and yes it does stink like hockey gear), I like the fact that it's lite, removable earflaps, and removable vent covers, they used to have a lifetime warranty, but not sure anymore.
I've worn a helmet since I started riding. Last night my buddy that i've ridden with for a couple seasons on and off says to me, "when did you start wearing a helmet?"... he never even noticed. Cool friends eh
No, sorry, the lesson was: no one gives a fuck if you do or don't
I think a lot of people don't wear helmets particularly because they look (and feel) a little weird. Honestly, I only use mine when I'm riding park or backcountry and I know I'm going to be seriously pushing my abilities or possibly being inverted.
And the day it's going to be an "easy" day is the day you're going to have your brains spilled out. Take it from me, I know.
If you have a helmet why not wear it all the time? Because you feel dorky? You'll look a lot more goofy when your mom is feeding you baby food.:dunno:
Not trying to start shit. I was the idiot who didn't wear mine because it didn't look cool. And the day I was taking it easy is the day I wrecked myself. Just hoping people learn from me so they don't experience the shit I had to live through.
I bought a Smith Varient helmet this year. It's a tight fitting sleek design and I think it looks great. Last year I had a Burton Red. Both look nice but the smith fits nicer and looks much better.
I have too much to lose in the name of looking good, not to wear a helmet. Besides...I probably look just as stupid without one as I do with one. :dunno:
The hardest hit I have ever taken to my head was on the plate ice when unloading chair 8 in vail. Someone caught my board withe their ski pole and it took my board out. It dazed me with my helmet. Without it, who knows. I had less dizziness when I got smacked with a 2x4 in a brawl once though.
I ride that chair 6-7 times a day about 5 days a week..... I always wear a helmet. I'd rather look stupid than be stupid. These days your in a major minority if your not wearing a helmet.
I had a huge chunk of ice drop off the chair cable last week and bounce right off my helmeted head on its way to the ground. Phewww! That would've hurt.
I've got a Giro with the Santa Cruz graohics, I really like it and feel more comfortable wearing it, but I ride a motorbike and have a track/drift car so I have no issues with the comfort/restriction of wearing a helmet.
My girlfriends been snowboarding longer than me and has never had a helmet, when I got one last year she decided she'd have to, she's already said she won't be riding without it now.
After breaking a motorcycle helmet in a crash this summer and only getting a headache, I started wearing a helmet snowboarding.
It really doesn't take much of a hit to the head for you to end up with your mom having to change your diapers.
Who cares what you look like.
