I was @ Cypress last weekend & me & some dude were tryiin' to huck some doubles into the airbag.
Even before either of us had tried one, I had this little clip running through my head. http://www.snowboardingforum.com/pho...flip-fail.html In my head, I was well aware of what could happen. Here is buddy trying one, watch how close his head comes to the lip of the jump!!! His helmet might have even grazed the lip, it's hard to tell? It definitely isn't done up tight enough. https://vimeo.com/55688067 We were talkin' about tryin' one, then he bust one out without sayin'. So I was a tad stoked, as you can hear. That's all I need to bust one or two out as well. If someone else can do one, I can't see why the fuck I shouldn't be able to do it as well. ![]() After seeing how close he came to catastrophe, it was definitely something I was taking into consideration. As long as I'm aware of where I'm @ on the jump, I think I can get a little more pre-load in there? https://vimeo.com/55667861 https://vimeo.com/55667857 The quality is garbage sorry I don't have the knowledge to split the super long clips, so I had to re-record them playing on my pc. TT

Both of you are making the classic mistake when trying flips. Your not jumping/popping. You're putting all your effort into the spin and none into simply doing the jump. While I was learning to do backflips on my feet my gymnast friend always told me "jump and then flip".

Watch it again, I don't really use any of the jumps spinning momentum. I wait until I know I'm @ the edge of the lip, then pop. My rotations are way slower because of this, but I go much bigger. I"m not even close to touchin' the lip, my rotation starts after I leave the jump. TT

Not bad, props just for trying, I won't pretend I can do a double but I do have some basic gymnastic experience.
You will get round much quicker if you get your knees more tucked up into your chest. Try grabbing the back of your knee for starters and then when you get more used to it you can grab the board. |
