Letter I wrote to Special Blend- A great company

Here is a letter today when I sent in a request for some stickers........

Special Blend

I have been riding since 1993; I will be going onto my 20th year this season. I still ride with my white, “very dirty” Special blend coat; it was the only xxl coat that fit huge on me since I like to wear my clothing big. It has to be at least 6 years old. LOVE that jacket. I have been devoted to your company and clothing line since around my second year of snowboarding when it was 4square and or special blend. My first year of riding I was still wearing the florescent ski clothes I had from when I was younger. I remember when everything was small and not considered BIG business. I remember when it was me and 1 other person on the mountain and snowboarders were only allowed down 1 or 2 trails because “we made to big of piles of snow” and were required to wear leashes like a dog even though our bindings were more secure then skiers. I remembered the dirty looks I would get on the mountain and how we weren’t accepted. Things have changed drastically in the industry over the last 20 years, I would say in some ways for the better in relation to technology and some ways for the worst where everyone considers themselves a great rider and there is no appreciation for the past companies and everyone wants the big names and the big products. I think the industry has become too mainstream like any other sport that is whored out, especially with Nike entering the category now.

I have been riding on my old school board with the special blend sticker first chair last call for about the last 8 years. Once and a while someone old school will notice the sticker and show some appreciation which then gains mutual respect. Overall what has happened in this industry and what is happening to this great company is a shame. I would love to have some of your stickers and put them on my board and helmet and wear it with pride. I will pass on to younger generations and speak of great companies like yourselves that helped to pioneer the sport and bring the clothing lines to the next level. FYI, I have been riding at Killington, Stratton and Mount Snow and have been to Burlington on a ton of occasions. I wish everyone the best who has put in the time and effort to make a great product and I pray that everyone can move on and be employed and that this move by Burton does not affect any livelihoods at Special Blend aka 4 Square.

To everyone at Special Blend have a Happy Holiday and I hope for the best.

Much Respect,

They do. I wrote a letter to Burton Europe with a request for stickers (and I asked for a large one of their logo). A week later I got the stickers in my mailbox AND a post-it in it which said: The big ones are only for team riders.

Yeah I get it, they have some min wage flunky that see's it, tosses it after a quick scan, then stuffs stickers in your envelope. Maybe SB was great back in the day, but they have become like every other greedy outwear co. They have offices here in the states but manufacture cheap crap in Chiina or wherever slave labor is the cheapest. Any new outwear you buy today is not going to last more then a season or 2 before it falls apart, so you have to buy more of thier junk, no money in jackets that hold up over 10 years. Not dissin on you or SB in particular, but corparate america as a whole
