Totally. As a person who learned to ski first the only real advantage it gave me was that I was comfortable sliding around on snow. The two are pretty distinctly different since 4 edges is certainly not the same as 2. I'll say this, my first pow day on a snowboard made me a permanent convert.

knowing how to skii with a 12 year break before I learned to snowboard. The only thing that I thought was good was I knew how to use the chair properly, riding etiquette and the fundamentals of how a board/edges make you turn

Try skateboarding or wakeboarding in the summer if you want something that will help you progress. I do think being a good mogul skier made me a lot more comfortable with moguls on a snowboard, but that's about it really.
