Anyone ever broken some bones?
Fourth run of the season on my new complete setup and i took a spill and ended up breaking my left humerus (bicep bone) of my arm just after picking up a season full time pass...yeah you could call me lucky  And now im stuck debating whether or not i should return it, but im leaning towards holding onto it.
So it broke the night of Dec 22nd on the last run of the day, and got surgery on christmas eve, pins weren't enough so three screws were needed. Doc says 6-8 weeks to have the bone healed, but that means im gonna be missing muscle mass, would you think it's safe to start riding a week or two after the doc says the bone is healed,(not medical advice, just a second opinion) with the absence of muscle? My hockey season is finished which really sucks, but shit happens. Any of you guys had experience with a broken humerus? How long did it take? original break (about an hour or so after the crash): http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/...ps15bec975.jpg The next day before surgery (bone shifted): http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/...3A888B41EE.jpg During surgery, pretty much what it looked like after: http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/...39DCE6E5F0.jpg |
Sorry to hear, it sucks having to sit on the sidelines because of an injury. Not sure about your medical questions, i have not a clue, but heal up quick and get back to shreddin!

For the OP - I'm no doctor but I'd be wary about riding again immediately after its healed. You will have NO muscle mass, which means no buffer for it if you do hit it again. Plus, that area of the arm - geometrically - is very dynamic, meaning you use it a lot and it can go in many different directions, which will autmatically make you're recovery time longer or shorter depending on how much you use the arm. I dunno, my 0.02. |
Yeah it was not funniest thing in the world. When it happened I had my buddy drive me back to my local ER. Two hours away. I felt every bump. To be honest the worst part was when they pulled the pin out. I felt it twist out of my bone. :dizzy:

You should be asking your doctor, not random people on an internet forum.

As long as I don't fall on it it makes sense that I'll be fine |
Fuckkkkkkkkkkkk no lol.
Get it out of your head right now. Your primary concern right now is healing. Yes it takes 4-6 weeks for healing to be stable but that doesnt mean it's at the original strength. You have to Rehab first which is going to be a life long process. Dont' slack on it, but don't overdo it. Take the year off, it's not the end of the world, focus on getting healthy. |
