High Temps & Snow/Trails?
 

First off, I live on the east coast and just started snowboarding (I'm a kid). I've only gone 5 times ever. So I've been stuck in school for a week and really want to go somewhere in PA over the weekend. Probably Shawnee Mt 'cause it's close to me and I don't need long trails and 5000 feet of vertical.

Unfortunately, I checked the weather forecast and temps will be around 52 on Saturday, but the Shawnee website says that it has about 85% of its trails open, which is 20 out of 23. My question is, what's it going to be like on Sat? Will there be any snow at all? 'Cause if everything's going to be slush, I might as well not go and I'll be very very sad :(

Is it possible to go boarding when its ~50 outside?

If they have any sort of base down it should be fine. Yes it is possible an pretty fun. Some of my best times have been really warm spring days.

Why wouldn't you want to ride if its warm? Man out here in Tahoe I love slushy spring riding. I'd say just go

After freezing my left nut off in Loveland and Breck, warm riding is better than super cold riding.

Yes I know it wasn't cold to CO standards, but it was to California's! Never had a day like that in Tahoe yet. It was windchillingly cold brrr

Ok thanks. I'm feelin' much better about Saturday now. I was probably going to go anyway because it's pretty much the only thing I look forward to in life :)

We get no snow here so everything over at Shawnee is man-made, groomed hard pack. They *should* have a good base then. I can't wait.

On a side note, I hate hot weather; I prefer freezing my a$$ off on the snow.

I'm here in Philly and most of the mountains have cold enough temps at night to make the snow for good turns. I'm not headed up this weekend, but MLK weekend I'll be at Camelback or Elk.

You guys out in PA have been 2-3 days behind us in MI this season for weather. Most resorts open now are boasting 24-40" base or more, that ain't going anywhere in one or two days of warm weather.

Riding in those temps can be a mixed bag sometimes it's slushy and fun sometimes it's like riding on a wet carpet and it sucks. I'm hoping it's fun... got plans to meet up with some forum friends on Saturday.

I once went snowboarding in Michigan and it was 84 degrees. So, it's certainly possible!

Last March, I rode at Tremblant during a freakish heat wave, there was a humidex reading of 34C (90F). Weird, but great!

Holy crap that's awesome! Where was that? I wanna go snowboarding in the summer!
