ASPEN, Colo. -- Several spring storms that moved across the state last week dumped several inches of snow across higher elevations, allowing at least one ski resort to reopen for the weekend.

Aspen Mountain plans to ropen 45 acres, and possibly more, of intermediate, snow-covered terrain on June 13th.

The mountain will be open to the 11,212-foot summit with uploading and downloading on the Silver Queen Gondola.

The average snow depth is about 3 feet on the mountain's upper reaches.

Skiing and riding will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Ajax Express chairlift through June 15th.

With Arapahoe Basin closed for the season Sunday, Aspen Mountain would be the only ski resort open in Colorado.

AAAaaaahhhhh!!!!! I asked and asked if they were going to do this. Officially they always said "no". I had insiders who said "it's a very strong possibility to certainty". I gave up hoping. I think they just waited until A-Basin closed so they could get all the publicity. grrrr. It may just be quicker and cheaper to go hike at this point.

daysailer, it's always cheaper to go hike. Great lines going down all over these days. I kind of packed in my backcountry touring for the season, but if you want a fix the best stuff to do is in right now.

TGR was pretty much all over the reopening. If you hang out on that board at all lot's of good Colorado info can be found. Epicski/TGR differences aside.

Thanks kc. I know it's always cheaper to hike. I'm just lazy. My ankle is giving me fits right now for some reason. I may just pack things in. It's now prime sailing and scooter season anyway. I missed a scooter rally this past weekend and I don't think I want to miss the rides this weekend.

I do browse TGR sometimes. I think I was there last night. They are true hard-core passionate snowsliders there. I can do without the sophomoric outlooks but Epicski has its quirks too. I graduated from college over 20 years ago.

Scooter rally, eh? It wasn't one of those scooter gang fight things was it? I have a friend who is in the "Stella" Scooter (two words that really don't go together)gang...

I'm not in the Stella Scooter gang (but they are cool people). I'm in the Vespa Scooter gang. Hickenlooper is part of our gang even though he has a Aprilia Scarabeo. Channel 9 had a piece Sunday on this past weekends rally. Channel 4 has a clip of me riding with the gang at a rally a few years ago.

Actually there are many scooter clubs in the Denver area. There are some great online forums too. Modernvespa.com is probably one of the best for the newer vespas. Lots of enthusiasts from around the world. A great resource for repair and advice. There is a language barrier sometimes with the folks across the pond. We trade giving definitions of terms.

They are giving away free gas this Sat to scooters at a gas station on Colfax. Then there is a ride out to Red Rocks.

Well enjoy your rally. If for some reason I fall into a couple of grand I don't need I might be tempted to get a scooter. They are certainly a lot cheaper than driving a car around. It would make my trip to the light rail station to get to work that much cheaper for sure.
Maybe I could find one of these to bring to a rally...

That Puch moped is a classic! I used to have one back in the early 80's. Mopeds are really popular out in LA and are building a following here in Denver. One of the mechanics at Sportique is looking for a Puch moped if you ever see one.
