NEW YORK - More people are hurt snowboarding than any other outdoor activity, accounting for a quarter of emergency room visits, according to the first national study to estimate recreational injuries.
that's weird skiing is no were in the article, it sounds like it should be located somewhere in the there, since the two sports are closely related.
But either way with every sport you have risks and winter sports tend to be on the top of the list. I guess you know what you get into when you start, there are always ways to stay safe, as long as you take some preoccupations. But is good to remember that there are always chances for accidents.
Is this the kind of crap the government spends our money to find out? Snowboarding can be dangerous?!!? What is their next study going to be?! Are Americans more allergic to doggy dander than cat hair??
If you wanna talk about taxes wasted to hell. Try my this one, on my rout to work the city decided to built a wall about 12 feet tall and half a mile long, and they hired all this expensive artists to paint a big mural of the ocean and animals and stuff. now don't get me wrong the mural is gorgeous, I will take some pictures and post them later on tomorrow.
My problem with this is that they built the fucking mural in a bad part of town and you well know that the thing is going to be full of graffiti withing a month. Also is right in front of a Walmart and before a red light, it already caused 2 accidents because the drivers were looking at it.
They should concentrate that money into rebuilding the state parks, they are destroyed after the hurricane. No trees at all, they look deserted.
In my opinion the problem is a lack of regular auditing within government organizations. Budgets are treated as a donation.
Example: Parks dept gets $10 Million budgeted for Park A. This is supposed to be an estimate of what it actually cost at a minimum to MAINTAIN the park. They all said and done they say, "hey! it only cost us $8 mil this year. FREE MONEY!!! Let's build have a big wall and award the contract to my friend BillyBob".
Any expenditure by government organizations beyond MAINTENANCE should require approval from the top. Obviously the legislature can't be wasting time to approve individual projects at a low level but there needs to be a system in place so that expansion and maintenance are completely separate. But it isn't, they spend all the money they get and then include the costs as part of their regular budget and request more and more and more money cause nobody is up their ass about it.
