Default Bolt nazi

A bolt fell out of one of my inserts today. I went into a rental shop to see if they had an extra one. The guy at the counter told me the inserts on different boards are different and he would need to see which one would fit. I am pretty sure the sizes are all standard, unless you are riding a vintage snowboard from the late 80's or early 90's.

Then he grabbed my snowboard and went back to tech section with my board. I was like hold on, are you going to charge me? He said yes, he is running a business. All I wanted was a bolt. I bet it would of cost 10 dollars for him to find the "right size" and install it. Then I asked if I could buy just one, he said no. I would have to buy one of those 14 dollar packs.

I left. I could not find another shop with extra bolts. I crept back into the same shop and asked another employee, he gave me one. Tip for that guy. WTF was with that other guy?. I have bought gloves, face masks, hand warmers, and have had real repairs done at this shop. That shit costs way more money than a bolt. Being a bolt nazi is a sure way to discourage repeat business.

Wow!! No shit! I've had guys give me handfuls of bolts!
Yeah, I wouldn't get any service done with that shop short of an emergency, and maybe not even then!

What a prick. Lucky you didn't need to take a dump or you would be needing to get out the credit card.

This has happened to my wife twice. Once at Snoqualmie (suckqualmie is more like it) and they made us buy an entire pack of them and they were slightly to long. Had to put several washers on it to get it to be remotely tight. The second time we were at Crystal. They not only gave us one, but locktited it and installed it for us for free! Gave the tech a nice phatty nug and we were on our way.

Kindness brings kindness my friends.

And I have learned lately, that a negative yelp review will really make a difference. Most respectable shop owners will do what ever they can to correct douchebaggery if you air out your problems with them for every one to see.

My local mountain (BROmont Qc) inforces the leash policy once in a while and will force you to buy one 8$ a pop. They will tell you the makeshift leash you made is sub standard. Then I ask them the purpose of a correctly working leash.....

You know what ?the other time my buddy lost one of is hand adjustable screw for is Cartel's and even there they gave him one for free.

I took my kid's burton grom binding into Squire John's in Collingwood Ontario a couple weeks ago as it was missing a bolt on the ankle strap. Said that I needed a bolt and while I was there I needed advice on a file for sharpening. Guy behind the counter asks me if I have other snowboards, I say yes, he asks what kind of bindings, makes me up a little zip loc baggy full of the various bolts and fasteners for ankle straps, highback hinges and so on, I ask how much, he tells me it's free. We go over to the sharpening stuff, he helps me out with a file and off I go, happy to have the chance to tell this story to others.

Lamps, I bet you will return to that shop again. Helpful shops get a lot of business because people will come back. Trying to squeeze every penny out of your customers is a good way to discourage business.

Not only will he return but I know what shop I am going to if I need anything when I am down that way. Shops should know that those little things good and bad end up on places like this and really can influence future customers.
