Every once and a while you will hear of snowboard/ski thieves getting busted. I love it when this happens. I hate people that steal, especially mountain thieves.

It's a good idea to write down the serial number of your board. In my area busts happen and people who reported their equipment stolen have a better chance of getting it back if they have the serial number.

Locks are good thieves go for the easiest boards to take,

I didn't personally get to see the guy, but i'm glad he got caught. He's definitely facing some fines.

what the? So , the cops had sufficient evidence to search their house?

Wha? on what?

JFC we ARE turning into a police state. No offense dude, but lock your shit up. If it gets stolen, unless they setup a sting, get the board off dude in public and have serials matching what you have on record, then I'd say the cops overstepped themselves.

Regardless of being in the right or wrong here, sure it ended up well - but doesnt anyone worry that cops are seizing power like martial law?

As much as I am not a fan of many police tactics in many situations, they most likely contacted this person regarding buying the stolen board and was arrested when the serial numbers matched the stolen items. I highly doubt they just busted into the house with no warrant and took everything.
