Default The Stolen Stepchild

Back on MLK Day my '09 Stepchild Jibstick got stolen off the racks at my local mountain.
So 3 days go by, no sign of it, nobody has heard anything, so i figure i'll buy a new board.
I go out and buy the identical setup that got stolen because i loved that boards feel so much. So I have a 2011 stepchild jibstick with union forces now. I check craigslist 6 days later, oh look, theres my board.
So then I turn to the police, they contact the guy that posted it, they get it 2 days later and get it back to me.
By me finding that post, I helped 2 other kids get their boards back that got stolen the same night.

I post this story for the people that have had a board stolen, or for the people that think it doesn't happen. Lock your stuff or leave it in sight, because i thought it'd never happen to me.

TL;DR : Board gets stolen, buy a new board, find old board on craigslist, get old board back, happy man.

Awesome. Question though, how did the police get him to fess up? They just ask him to prove he had receipts or charge history for the setup?

It helped that I'm friends with an ex-cop that knows a bunch of the current cops and he vouched and helped me, but aside from that i had pictures of it and the bindings have a bolt that I modified, so that was also a factor, plus i reported the board stolen at the mountain, so regardless of having receipts I still had a bunch of other information to prove it's mine. The guy that stole it wasn't the guy that put it on craigslist. The guy that stole it gave it to this guy for drugs or whatever, so the guy the police found ratted out the other guy, and at that guys house they found 3 stolen boards.

Wow, that sucks to have your board stolen but it's great that you got it back I always thought I was paranoid locking my board with a bike lock... and I don't even own it - it's a rental!

Glad you got it back. I'm constantly debating buying a cable lock for my setup.

OP is one happy camper!!!

Yeah lock your shit folks... If your resort has 'em get the "ski key" lock. Works like a charm.

Never leave my gear unwatched or unlocked on gaperday weekends, never know what shifty eyed gapers are hanging around.

Edit: Better yet, I usually avoid gaperday weekends at all costs unless I haven't had my fix and I start getting some shakes.
