It is good summer corn snow. The lifts start running at 7:30 AM and Palmer stops at 1:30 PM. There is a limited public lane as well as free range area north of the main lift off Palmer. The pitch is mild being a blue at most other places. It is wide open and good for working on technique as well as just enjoying the ride. The views are awesome up there. Generaly, it is not too crowded except in the morning with all of the race camos using the lifts. By 11:00 AM they start winding down the camps and then the entire Palmer run is open for the public. Timberline Lodge has a great lounge where you can enjoy a local micro brew afterward. In the afternoon, there are nice nature trails that are now free of snow on the lower part of the property where you can do some hiking.

In the general area, there is a ton of Forest Service roads to lakes, campgrounds and hiking trails. Fishing in the Salmon River around Welches is good and several local fly fishing shops can give you info on what the current hatch is to match. Ski Bowl in Government Camp has the Alpine Slide as well as a lot of other summer activities on the mountain. A 45 minute drive around the mountain and you are in Hood River where it is a mecca for wind surfing and kite boarding. If you want to take a break from riding for a day, drive to Maupin, Oregon and spend a day floating the Deschutes River with one of the commercial outfits like All Star. There is great whitewater on a clear cold clean river through a scenic desert canyon.

Went up on Saturday and had a blast! The wife bagged it...she saw the black diamonds at the top and decided to hang out in the lodge and read

I went in my Sharks jersey thinking it would be warm. It was a balmy 41* and windy, but it warmed up a bit later on!

Either way, had a great time!
