Not my thing. In summer I am taking advantage of the things I can only do in the summer like river rafting and back packing. If I want summer shredding, I am packing my board with me hiking and riding glaciers in the Washington Cascades, hitting a rail in the backyard is about the most boring thing I can think of personally so to each his own; I'd rather be up here:
Yeah I skate, but jubbing on a snowboard beats it any day. Ever since I rode the dry slope in Niagra I've wanted to build something like this. I think this year I will.
sick vid! dude has some skills. i'm almost done building my little backyard setup.
i know there are other summer time sports. i surf, play tons of soccer, longboard(sk8), competitive powerlifting(i'm #5 in my weight class in the US) and skimboard BUT like Extremo said jibbing on a snowboard beats them all any day.
i'll be at Loon this weekend for my gf's oakley progression session if anyone is down to ride
Down here in NC our season is already over and like u said i do other stuff, mtn bike, mx, and wakeboard some but im still about to get some astroturf make a little rail see if i can improve my jib skills
Lets all get to work and post up pics when finished, u too extremo
I definitely wouldn't spend hundreds on m-snow. I just use turf and it works fine. The speed is sometimes hard to master but after a while you'll get used to it. Plus you can probably get about 6-10x as much turf than m-snow for the same price if you wanted multiple jibs.
Here's my set-up. Took a couple weeks for me to make but it was by far worth it (building is the fun part). Cost about $100-150 maybe. Some of the wood I had already.
The top is made of 4x4 posts w/ 2x4 cross beams. Drop is 3 2x4s layed parallel. Then plywood over all of the top. I also made 2 boxes which have relatively the same construction (4x4 posts w/ 2x4 cross). I used 1 inch PVC on the sides and some sort of composite topsheet found at LOWES. I looked around forever for topsheets and this is probably the best, and cheapest. Unless you want to buy HDPE (what they use on real boxes). I think it's called PLC board? Not sure but I think it's around ~1/4in. Smooth on one side and bumpy on the other. It was about $30 for a 4ftx8ft sheet.
Since this, I decreased the slope of the drop by a bit because it was too fast. Also, this summer i want to make the flat part at the bottom of the drop bigger so I get a little more time to think and spin.
