Default Tipping in Canada

Can someone fill me in on the situation with tipping in Canada, particularly in the ski resort environment? Australia does not really have a tipping "culture" like the U.S., but it's not uncommon to tip for restaurant meals and such, so I expect to do that, but what about instructors and other resort/hotel staff? Is it more like Australia, or more like the U.S.?

Thanks.

Tipping is appropriate anytime you recieve a service. Canadians generally tip well. 10% for bad service, 15% minimum for good service. I am Canadian and tip for restaraunt and bar service, salons, spas, hotel staff, valet or taxi, instructors etc. It is expected here, you should budget extra to cover tipping.

Yeah tip us instructors

What bugs me is our staff in other departments get free lessons from us, they can just turn up and join a group if there is a spare space. Now they of course act all pissy if we are in the bar and don't tip them, however they turn up to a free lesson, take up our time that could be spent on paying customers and then just stroll off at the end. So those people didn't get a tip for the rest of the year. I don't mind not getting a tip, but when they demand one then they should be doing the same.

/rant!

Anyway generally anyone who gives you a bill to pay would be after a tip, taxi drivers also. Bar staff. You'll soon figure out who does and doesn't need a tip.

Bad = 0-10%
Good = 10-20%
Excellent = 20-whatever%

Tip more for small places (i.e. tiny pizza place), less for big places (i.e. The Keg).
