i know what all of y'all are saying.... and really it doesn't matter how you get your rocks off! park, piste or outback jack..... it is all a damn fine thing that despite these diverse perspectives, we can enjoy a shared indulgence of a mountain life and a sideways slide.
it is just another reason for why this sport / culture / way of life is so exceptional! we be one big rocking family.
i feel kinda bad for never having night ridden now tho; they had flood lit piste at Big White, but to be honest, it was farking cold out there and i was already knackered from riding all DAY.
where there's a will tho, there's a way.... i guess the will is lacking, coz like with park riding, where you have to go where they put the rail / ramp..... night riding is determined for you, by where the resort plants the lights.......
but having said that, a bad day in the park beats the bollocks off a good day in the office for sure! and i fully agree, few things beat the feeling of nailing that first trick; i still recall my first cleanly grabbed and tweaked backside1!

Yeah, if you get the chance go out and try some night riding. The mountain just has a "magical" feel after dark and there are no crowds or waiting in lift lines. Things at night just seem to be super laid back and chill. Even in my "regular" work I prefer the night shift to the day shift to get away from all of the tripple A personality types that seem prevelent in the daytime world.
My favorite classes to teach at Mt. Hood Meadows are the night classes; I always work Christmas Eve and New Years as Mt. Hood Meadows has a big feast, party and a fireworks show that makes it look like Mt. Hood is erupting! Good times for sure!!!

You, my friend, are going to be quoted in my sig.
And night riding is great. It is really chill... just carving some groomed runs is great at night

love night riding, i miss how quite and relaxing it was riding the Vancouver mountains at night. what i love about snowboarding is getting the virgin pow first thing in the mourning and the fact that its something you can do with people or have just as much fun going yourself. i also like breathing the air in the alpine seems so nice, and the way snow and water freezes to my beard making me feel rugged.

I love the creativity of figuring out what would be the coolest new line or the most nasty jib. When you can see something anywhere and say "That would make a great picture" then you know you are creative.

For sure... I love the creativity aspect of it too. Figuring out the perfect angle for the shot, or seeing a tree or what not and knowing that it could be a great jib.

As others have said, just getting out and the freedom. And how close you are with the snow, even though you have a board and boots and such between it and yourself you can feel the texture of the snow as you glide across it. It's just blissful. Also, not caring about bodily harm is a nice change. Just riding up to a jump, box, rail, or whatever and saying to yourself even if I don't walk away from this, I'm still going to hit it.
ETA: Night riding is the best

Its all about the safety meeting
And everything around it.
Truly its always been about the ride, being outdoors, accomplishing some goals. One of the ones I picked was night riding. Perhaps my favorite time to ride really. Its less crowded, faster and u meet some neat people...also taking safety meetings
