Being a new hire these things commonly happen. I used to deal with this all the time at UTC. Generally with new hires these attached strings(pre hire vacations) are allowed within the first year. Now next year you may have a problem because you now know what the company structure is but for this year u will be fine.

Many businesses are busy in January, February etc so u may have hit it at a bad time. And being a receptionist I would suggest hiring a temp for the time ur out. No biggie.

I would strongly suggest that you work hard at your new job. Before u go on vacation leave it in the best shape possible and u will be fine.

I had that problem, too. I had a vacation set up for Steven's Pass. My job blacked out the days I was going even though they approved me for them. I just went on emergency leave, stated "family issues" as the reason and stayed gone for 3 weeks (minimum for LOA). I lost my position, but not my job. Worked ok because I quit about a couple months later anyways.
