Default 1st time Rider

I just recently moved to the Front Range of Colorado and picked up a new hobby for the winter. I bought a used Burton Charger 161 with Freestyle bindings for $40 off Craigslist along with finding some good deals on a helmet and boots and buying a Colorado Gems card and a Echo Mtn Season Pass.

Got out to A Basin today with my sister. This is my 1st time ever on a snowboard so call me poser , whatever...but I just stuck to Molly Hogan...aka the bunny slope...and started doing some self teaching as my sister is a skier and knows nothing about snowboarding.

I've got the toe edge down pat..stopping...could even carve as long as it was to the left....goofy footed here...Heel edge I've got some serious working to do...I'll either fall flat on my rear or end up spinning some 180's and got descent with the fakies as long as I was...again...riding the toe edge...

Pics from today

On the Slope

It was damnable hot out there...50 degrees and we were burning up. Maybe one day I'll be ready for a blue.

My 3 season other hobby

though we'll hit in the snow too

Alright man! Welcome to the forums and snowboarding!

Thats awesome you got your toe edge down. For me that was the hardest part.

Just be more confident in your heel edge and you will do fine.

Peace

That biking looks a lot harder than boarding! Welcome to the boards!

Ditto it took me awhile to be confident in the toe edge, heel edge came naturally to me because i figure worst case i just fall 2 feet onto my ass..toe edge meant i had to brace for impact. Just practice standing and balancing on your heels a bit out of the board to get a sense for how far you can go before falling...you'd be surprised how far you can lean

First, welcome to the sport and the forum. You should really consider taking a few lessons. It will help you learn much faster, and will help rid you of bad habits when they are easy to unlearn.

Second, standard size pics for web forums are 640 x 480. Yours are a bit cumbersome. If you wish to post larger size images, please put them behind a link. If you don't have image resizing software, use this site before you post pics. TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting

Holy crap, yes I second that big time. You need to adjust your binding angles and/or adjust the binding to move the highback, BACK! You want usually about the same heel and toe overlap on the edges which is, minimal. They don't have to be fully covered by the board, but that looks anywhere from 2-3 inches from the edge and at high speeds and sharp turns that's gonna spell trouble. I may be wrong, but strap in your board and support your body by holding onto a chair and leaning on the toe end forward to see how far you can go before they touch.

Wow, good eyes. I just noticed it, since you said something. That's like a 4 inch overhang, lol. You may want to look into that.

The toes actually have a 2 inch overhang...and the heel has a inch and 1/2. That's with the bindings and the high back adjusted far back as possible. I wear a 13 boot. I understand I will want a wider board but for learning I thought this one would do. The toes of my boots don't seem to drag in the snow and I did a sweet carve on the toeside, my good side right now, and it left a nice curving line in the snow.

That seems like a really unbalanced setting. Any reason you have it set that way?
