Wow, to Extreme Holdings. The Sims/LTD guys. Not really sure what this means, but it is a big move. Kind of wish they could just become their own entity myself.
Quiksilver announced this morning its plans to sell Mervin Manufacturing, parent company to popular snowboard brands Lib Tech and Gnu, to Extreme Holdings, Inc., an entity advised byAltamont Capital Partners—the investor group behind the recent purchase of DaKine from Billabong. As part of the deal, Mervin will continue to manufacture snowboards for Quiksilver’s Roxy brand.
Actually in the Quik umbrella Mervin and Roxy are their only two profitable brands. Really surprised that it is Extreme Holdings swooping them up though.
There was a really good interview with Mike and Pete last year that had the whole history of the company from the garage scale days to present, and a really good insight into who they are and where they've been. Never seen anything anywhere near that comprehensive in any kind of company "bio". I think a link to it was posted on here.
Anyway, in it they talked about their relationship with Quicksilver and it sounded really beneficial to both sides. They kept full control over their operation and could do wudeva da fugg they want. Basically just allowed them to worry less about financing, loans, (maybe distribution too?) things like that. It really helped them grow and expand.
Would be cool for them to keep the punx attitude and just own their own damn selves, but wudeva...
With the pick up of dakine and the recent reinvestment in sims, it'll be interesting to see if they are trying to put together a legitimate snow company. Can't see them spending this kind of money to strip these companies, or expand the lines into walmart
Damn. I need to buy at least 3 more skunk apes before they stop makin them good
