i read an article in a skiing magazine while in the doctor's office getting my anus probed....i mean...anyway.... in this article it stated that there were over 40 shut down and forgotten about ski areas in NEW YORK STATE ALONE!! i happen to know of two of these, one is called Mount Whitney and is located near Lake Placid, New York, site of the 1932 and 1980 olympic games, and it has some really impressive backcountry riding. the other is in a little town called Jay thats a few miles from Lake Placid but this little hill has been turned into some sort of business with a bunch of buildings all over it.

Anyone know of any lost ski areas or great backcountry riding in the eastern US? cuz id love to make a road trip out of it!!
