Default Snowboard on AA international flight - fee?

Hi there...

anyone recently traveled international with American Airlines and got a Snowboard on the plane for no extra fee..?
They don't state anything on their homepage.
For domestic flights they say that you can board a snowboard INSTEAD of a 50lbs luggage, no fee.

To clear things up, I called them on their hotline, twice:
1) it is an international flight, you would have to pay $110 extra to board your snowboard . only for domestic flights you can bring the board instead of a piece of luggage...
2) either way, international or domestic you can replace a piece of luggage by the board. However, if you want to bring 2 pieces of luggage and a snowboard, it would cost $110 extra...

Doesn't really help

Anyone with a field test can comment...?
