I just watched a Dozen More Turns, this is a documentary about a backcountry accident that had dire consequences. One bad choice and someone dies and another is lucky to live. The survivor is a real eye opener as what can happen. If you are interested in backcountry riding, this is good film to watch to understand some of the dangers you can face.

Wow...excellent film. They say that after an avalanche, the beacon is more often than not used for body recovery. The majority of deaths are from trauma. The only real defense against avalanches is avoidance. To get an idea of the unimaginable power an avalanche can unleash, take a look at this photo taken in the summer after a major slide off of Humphrey`s Peak near Flagstaff, Arizona.

This thing originated high above on Wy East Face and made it all the way to the Heather Canyon Chairlift.
