thought id throw up the photos from my trip up to Mt lyford on the weekend...7hours of driving, a couple of detours due to road closures (flooding & landslips) and forecasted rain/wind werent enough to stop me and my flatmate from making it to 3.25m base, with 1.5m of it falling within 24hours.

Saturday morning...no sign of forecasted rain as we approach the hill...

This last one is looking out at one of the other mountains across the valley from Mt. Lyford.

was a mint day, some real interesting hits to be found with some real fun wind lips and cornice's.
Spent Sunday up Mt Hutt, where they got 10cm of fresh overnight on top of a 2.25m base, so was fresh tracks to be had that day to...but no photos unfortunately.

haha yea pretty much saw it on the net, chucked our gear in the car and headed off. was a mission but was definatly worth it.

I just came home from my vacation in NZ and it's really awesome to be able to say I went snowboarding 5 out of 7 days in July while in Queenstown.

I was able to go to Coronet Peak, Remarkables and Cardrona. Coronet I went 2 days in a row; first day was cloudy and visibility was very poor. And when people say that snow field is icy... it's icy! Being from the west coast I definitely was not used to the ice and I don't think I enjoyed my time there as much. The 2nd day was much nicer. I'm a fairly strong intermediate boarder mostly focussed on all mountain riding and the blue runs at Coronet were pretty decent.

3rd day was at Remarkables. Definitely a smaller snow field than Coronet. There was a light dusting of snow and in the morning it seemed to be hard packed conditions. But that day was so cold and I think everything turned icy. I was there the day before the Stash officially opened, so too bad I missed out on that.

I was only planning to go boarding for 4 days, but after 1 day at Cardrona, I HAD to go back for day 2 there!! From the other 2 resorts, Cardrona is definitely the best. The snow was powdery and not a hint of ice. The Captain's Basin is wide open and a day can be easily spent going up and down, exploring different parts, doing different permutations of runs. Runs were challenging enough and you always have the option of going off piste in the Captain's Basin. First day there was cloudy and visibility poor, but I still had a good time. The 2nd day I was able to explore some black runs, which were managable because of the soft pack/powdery conditions.

So I had pretty good time in NZ, thanks for the all the help when I asked for recommendations a few weeks ago!

stuck at uni doin assignments is killing me. but will hopefully head over this weekend if weather is good.

anyone tried out the stash at remarks yet?

North island buzz here, engineering is taking up all my time, skipping two days (tuesday, wednesday) because of the huge dump we just had, i'll get some pics.

"WOW there sure is a lot of snow up here!! Finally this hefty snow storm seems to have eased and we are beginning to realize just how much digging out needs to be done. The LBC at Whakapapa has about 2m of snow on its roof and behind the building the snow is level with the roof!

At Turoa we have finally managed to get the Operations Crew up to the base area after massive snow drifts made the road impassable to anything other than Cats. Our team have started the dig out of the decade with a large number of buildings completely buried, for example the High Flyer drive station (pics below) and return station. Ski Patrol at Whakapapa and Turoa are working as fast as possible to reduce the avalanche danger so the crew can access the lifts and get them dug out and turning.

Hopefully we’ll be back in business and riding powder before we know it"
