Hello Everyone,

We're proud to announce that the new site look and feel has been completed for SnowBoardingForum.com! Our designers and software engineers have been hard at work on this for several months. It's designed to modernize the site, make it easier to use, and to make it more attractive to new members and guests that visit .

The forum software we use, vBulletin, by default is not designed to be friendly to the eyes or to look modern. We went down to the nuts and bolts of the forum software and templates, and have done a ground up approach. There are several things you will notice now that the new design is live.

1) The site should be significantly faster.

We have applied every modern technique to speed up page load and tested with all modern browsers. We want the forum to be extremely fast and easy to use.

2) The site will work much better in mobile and tablet views

We've started applying responsive design, and have designed and tested against android and iPhone devices, Android tablets, and iPads. If you are sitting at your desk or on your couch, or just on your phone, the site will work much better than it did before, and load fast. We are still working on improving the experience even further in the months to come, but we wanted to launch this as quickly as we could.

3) The homepage is bright, crisp and clean.

We wanted the first page users saw to look beautiful, so that when a new guest arrives and is debating whether to join SnowBoardingForum.com, they see a beautiful doorway, and they walk right in.

As a forum member you can choose to use the new design (which is on by default) or you can go back to the old design. We ask that you give it a chance and see if you like it. Like anything new, it will be unfamiliar at first, but we suspect that the speed difference will make you want to use this new one. If you do decide to switch back, the link is at the bottom left of each forum page, you pull down and select the theme called "SnowBoardingForum.com Classic".

4) Users will be able to register with Facebook, Twitter or Google+

5) The side bar can be hidden in your user options.

Click on my profile / user cp at the top right.

- click on edit your details on the left.
- Look for Show Sidebar on Forum Pages under Additional Information.
- Click disable and save.

6) Another new great feature is the @Mention user plugin. You can tag members by simply using the @ symbol.

7) Drag and Drop image uploader

We hope you enjoy it, and if you have any questions on the design, please let us know, feedback is appreciated.

If there are any issues you see. Post them up here and we will get them worked out.

Thanks,
-Your SnowBoardingForum.com Team.

Re Sizing Page does not work

Hmmm... first impression: gotta say I like the new look - you caught me with the turquoise :)

What's not working yet is the size adjustment of the page. The size cannot be re-sized small enough to fit e.g. the titles of the active topics on my mobile screen (dectop mode) and also not shifted/scrolled to see the right part of the page.
I've no chance to see the right part of the edit window, it's cut off. Scroll up n down works)

Edit: btw: scrolling and re-sizing works when "Edit" a post but not when addin a new post or in the "go advanced" mode.

Myself and another member or two have been bumped off of the forum via our mobile devices. When I tried to log back on, I got a "user or PW invalid" message and couldn't log in with my phone!!

This just happened, because earlier I was browsing with it while on the "can!!" :eyetwitch: ???TMI,..??? :D

how do you turn off the stupid notifications. I started getting a bunch of emails all the sudden. How about you guys automatically turn off notifications on the "new" forum.

I dont like the mobile look of this site now and it will probably keep me away 70% of the time now as it is harder to navigate on phones.

Thanks for returning the "new Posts option at the top! I prefer that to the "active topics" myself! I only use that when I need to search for something fairly recent I may have missed!

Realize there are growing pains with this transition, it might have been wiser to send out a "bulk" email notification to all members rather than post the news in a forum that would be working "Wonky" for a while???

Juss sayin'!! ;)

the quoted posts notifications thing is stupid. I could care less if someone quotes me and it happens too often for them to make it a "thing".

I do like that you can "like" stuff.

Also, shredlife, you can change the setting to "classic forum" for the old look which I have done.

The 60 second post time is also a little long, it has been that way but it always has annoyed me. I figure since you are asking for feedback I would put that on there too. maybe 30 seconds?:blahblah:

...
Have another one. ;) Personally I like the distinction between 'someone quoted you' and 'someone posted in a thread you posted in once'.

Updating them now, they look a little washed out.
Thanks!

When I do a quick reply it does a "double post". My reply actually comes up but it goes to the "wait 60 seconds" screen immediately making it look like my post wasnt accepted.

I turned off emails but the quoted post notification does not go away.

Fuck it, Im going snowboarding. Maybe shit will be situated by this afternoon.

For this post I hit the quick reply button. When I hit "post quick reply" which is under this box I am typing in my post does two things. It posts to the thread and then it apparently tries to post a second time making the screen pop up that says I have to wait 60 seconds to post again rather than just taking me to the thread that I am posting on.

edit

Ok, seems to have fixed now.

Now I am going snowboarding....

Love the "Your notifications" and how it separates them into different categories on the drop down.

I'm still dealing with a few time out issues when I go to view another members homepage not sure if it is just me that is the only time it is timing me out now not the biggest deal brings me right back to where I left off once I log back in just more of an occasional annoyance.

Same as Chomps I will let you guys keep working and check back tomorrow

raffertyk2 out!!

I kind of have to agree that for whatever reason the color scheme is unsettling. I think Shred hit it on the nail when he mentioned it feels like a hospital. A way in our profiles to select a different style sheet would be great. Don't need to tweak everything, just a handful of different options would be great. Kind of like you could do on MySpace circa 2003 ;)

Thanks, ping me with any questions.

You can always @mention me it is like my bat signal @VS Jeff

I still think the top forum picture looks really corny. I'm also seeing a lot more advertisements on every page I click. Everything else looks to be in a positive direction though.
Some sites do a yearly contest for the banner updates if you guys would like.

Also stay logged in for less ads and you can always turn off the right hand sidebar (directions in the first post)

Prolly an option somewhere but if there isnt...and it did the same thing on the old version of the site.

Is there a way to modify how the attached thumbnails advance\load a new window? Cause I have to hit back to get back into the thread. I'm referencing Argo's Mt Bachelor picture upload.

Some sites load a temp window? For instance do a google image search and then click an image.

Uhm... I've prolly tomatoes on my eyes... where can I customize notifications? Can't find it in the User CP. And... there was a notification tab next to the PM on the top some hrs ago, now it ain't there anymore :|

It is definitely a change that is growing on me. I honestly liked the basic setting, (I realize I can go back to classic) but I do remember when I first came to this forum I thought it was probably dead lol I was like wtf this is so old school and obviously loved it anyway.
My mobile view looks the same, so I'm happy about that but tablet and laptop has the new version. It seems a little gawdy, but overall I'm content and somewhat excited about it.
I just think the main page is a waste of time and brings nothing useful to this forum, IMO. I'm curious where the content is pulled from.

I have been thinking the same! I know many of us aren't riding yet either so I'm really surprised.
