Haha awesome. I lived in Bamma when I had an internship. Honestly if you were talking about doing a a long weekend I would go to Snowshoe. I did a long weekend at snowshoe from Birmingham. It is a long drive for sure but the terrain is way better. You might also want to look at Beech since personally I don't like sugar as much. It seems every run funnels into 1 run and can be a show in a half on a weekend.

I actually have a 5 day trip booked for January @ snowshoe, I went to Beech and Sugar last year. I was just trying to think of somewhere to slip off to kinda close maybe for an overnight deal.

Cat is fun though went there a bunch in college. There are tons of kids from Atl that come up there. Always a fun time for sure.

I have a trip to Jackson, WY with the boys at the end of the month, but I am going to Cataloochee next week with the gf.

Never been. Not sure what to expect. Don't even know how to dress for a 50ºF high temp.

Ended up going 2 days early (yesterday). Rode in a cotton hoodie all morning (which is very new for me). Switched to a waterproof shell when it came time to help the gf.

I'd patronize this hill more if it were closer. 3+ hours is a bit much for what you get, though.

is it worth the extra 1-2 hrs drive to go to Sugar over Cataloochee - or does Cataloochee hold its own pretty well really?

i put in almost 30 days at cataloochee last year and loved it, and already been like 6 times this year...its a lot of fun and we go every week from atlanta

either up 575/515 or usually 400N to 20E to 985N to 441/23

man you gotta get out of ATL!...living in NC is bad enough for a snowboarder but ATL has got to be torture
