Beech n Sugar are probably out of the question for a day trip for me..., who i'd certainly like to try them out!
By the way crew, how's Cataloochee been this week/month? Anyone been up there recently to report back? I can't imagine it being too great all things considered, but looks like all the runs are open... Any tricks on getting a cheap day ticket on a weekend? |

I was at Cat on 1/25, and to be honest, it sucked.... the snow was pure slush, where there actually was snow.... lots of rocks poking through too...I decided that I wont be going back there unless there are some EPIC conditions.... I'll just go to Sugar...Or Beech.. Or Api.... pretty much ANYWHERE but Cat....

Honestly, I would just drive the extra and go to Sugar.... Its a little narrow on the landing, but not thin snow..... other than that, they've had Sugar looking REALLY good all year....leave early enough to get there by 8, ride the full day, and you should get in enough runs to make it worth the trip. The main lift "summit #1" is a bit slow, so we use the one between Easy Street and "Summit #1" (we call it the "Tiny Tim lift" cause its right next to the "Tiny Tim Connection" trail)...you loose about 20 yards on the run, but the lift is quite a bit faster, and goes to the top.

Havent been in 2 weeks since I was in CO boarding, but Cat holds their own pretty damn well. If its shit coverage, its purely based on weather, not effort. They blow WHENEVER the weather permits, and its usually the rain/warm weather that fucks shit up.
Last I went they had a couple trails closed and some grass spots, but it looks like they got cold temps last week and blew snow like crazy, they are 100% open now. they almost always have the park up and running, and just got some new features. so if your into park its a great time up there, especially evening/night, the park scene starts picking up with a lot of good riders. anyway, I usually get about 30 days in at Cat each season and its always a good time. Do some cruising first part of day and lap the park for the rest. Im going this wednesday for a full day, if you see a white jeep grand cherokee parked up front, ill gladly poor ya some vodka drinks ![]() When i go, i always get their early for good parking and usually stay for whole day/night, so you can usually find me at the jeep making dranks or pbj's throughout the day on our lil breaks oh yea, and its a 3 hour drive there for me as well, day trips are plenty worth it for that drive |
