I'm sooooo excited the man made paradise of the South East Season is underway! Me and some friends are headed up this weekend! Not sure where we are going but who ever is open has a good chance ha. I've only ever really been to App which I think is a pretty great place. I'll definitely be venturing out to Cat and Sugar this season too. Are the lines long at Sugar? That's the word anyways.
What is your favorite place? |

Sugar has the best vertical for sure and probably the most rideable acreage. I've been to app once and it didn't compare IMO. I'll probably be going to cat this year more just because it's closer to Atlanta. Last time I was there it was muddy and sparse. Looks like it could be fun when they have a good snow.
Sugar can get crowded but I usually did twilight which worked out well. No lines at night. I was about to ask what is sapphire, but now I remember. It's not really a ski resort but more of a four seasons destination with a ski lift. I've been hiking near there but never skied. Wolf is a new one for me but it is somewhat small and close to Asheville so I usually just keep driving to sugar. When I was in college we could ride til 2 am at hawksnest. Not sure what happened to that place. Last edited by ware4; 11-17-2011 at 12:20 AM. |

Cool cool, yea I'm definitely going to try to try them all this year. Sugar hopes to be open again this weekend so I'll probably go there. It seems to me that App is the way to go for park for sure.
The one place I realized I have forgotten is Beech. It looks pretty good on paper. Know anything about Beech? |

The last time I was at app was prob '93. There was no park then, maybe not even any boards.
I've never done any park riding before so can't help much with that. I know sugar has a small one. Never been to beech. It's pretty close to sugar and has less vertical I think. Don't know anyone who's been there. |

I hear sugar's lines get long, I went last year in the middle of the week, they were not a problem for me. Sugar's main lift is slow as Christmas, it literally takes 15 minutes to ride from base to summit. I did the nigh ski at beech, their main lift is much faster, it was extremely icy when I was there, but it was like 40 and raining. Seemed to be a pretty decent place though.

At Sugar, try to avoid going all the way to the bottom of the mountain to get back on the lifts. We've always used the lift that is about 100 yards up from the lodge, it's between the 2 lifts at the very bottom. Usually the line for that lift is shorter.
