Tahoe bound this weekend.....

.......and it looks like snow is in the forecast as long as the freezing level stays low.

Anyway, just wanted to get some local input on what's good right now and with weather coming in. We're staying close to Squaw so Squaw and Alpine Meadows are in play. Also have a free pass to Sierra a bit further south if it is worth the extra drive. Recommendations?

If it snowing, you won't be able to get to Sierra. They'll shut down the road, unless you drive around the top of the lake and all the way around. Major league out-of-the-way.

They're going to need a lot of snow, and this storm may do it. In Tahoe, when it snows, it snows like a mofo. You won't be going anywhere, so if you're near Alpine and Squaw you'll have plenty to do. Don't overlook Homewood, which is close to Alpine and Squaw. It has lower elevations, right on the lake, but close to the same vertical. Incredible views, sparse crowds, and only two green trails...lots of nice glades, no crowds, cheap lift tickets...everything Alpine and Squaw are not, but still great riding.

It will be interesting to see how much of squaw will open, even with the dump.

If you can make it over to Northstar, that is the place to be this season! This dump on top of all of the man made they've done should be pretty good.

After the snow I heard some areas crusted. How are Squaw and Kirkwood looking at right now?

Also, any discount tickets anywhere (squaw, kirkwood, northstar?)

Any info would be appreciated

Holiday weekend, so unless you use liftopia or something you will have a hard time finding discount tickets (craigslist might be an option if you have time). Kirkwood opened up the backside and should be really nice this weekend (but very hard to access if there's a storm). Squaw is iffy. They haven't had much open due to the avy danger and winds. Northstar is a lot of fun right now and has good coverage in the glades (i was there saturday-tuesday). I'll be at Sugarbowl on Saturday and probably Squaw on Sunday (depends on the morning resort report). All the resorts got pounded in the last storm and they are expect 6"-9" overnight on saturday, so it should be a good weekend wherever you end up.

Thanks for the update. I heard about the snow that is why I was surprised to hear about the 'crusting' after such a big dump.
I'm going to Squaw since they offer free lift ticket with Airline boarding pass on same day.
Likely Kirkwood Sunday and Northstar Mon/Tue
