Default Moved to Monterey. New to Cali entirely

I'm from OR. Used to board at mt. hood meadows. I've been looking around at reviews and locations, everything seems to be 4-5 hours away. Trying to decide on a season pass. I think I'm at about an intermediate level, who suggests what?

you moved the opposite way then!

but I think mammoth or june will be your best bet. If you want to go the tahoe route though, I think they offer some kind of multi-pass or something. So I'd look into that.

Ive heard meh things bout Bear Valley. I am going to try it out on a free ticket I got at skifest. I did the tripl3threat which is the best way to go if you're a college student, but they just announced you need to buy by the 21st NOV. Kirkwood will be offering a 50$ down option which it will honor until DEC 13th.

Montery is in a kind of interesting location you're just as far from Tahoe as your are from Mammoth time wise.

Bear Valley is actually fairly entertaining, especially for an intermediate. The best terrain at Bear Valley is low on the mountain. So it opens late and closes early unfortunately. Still it's a fun enough hill.

Kirkwood is a lot better for sure. Not even really a fair comparison.

June and Mammoth would be a ridiculous drive from Monterey. Sonora pass is closed in Winter and I don't think there is any other route south of that to get there except for the route Southern Cal uses. That means you'd have to drive over 88 to 395 and back down to Mammoth. At least a couple of hours longer than getting to Tahoe. Beautiful drive though and one of my favorites.

You are looking at Tahoe area resorts, Bear, Dodge, and I guess China Peaks. I think there are a couple other mom and pops somewhere near Fresno. Not sure on that one. Since you are an intermediate, I think any of those areas would entertain you plenty.

It is a long drive from Monterey. Actually one of my snowboard cabin mates is in Monterey. He drives up to Truckee (has a superpass for Alpine/Squaw and a Northstar pass) pretty much almost every single week of the season (Thursday-Sunday). Maybe you two could carpool.
