Homewood, Alpine and Squaw are all within minutes of each other. They're essentially the same range...Alpine is between Homewood on one side, Squaw on the other. And if you don't have a car, Alpine has a free local shuttle that stops at various locations in NLT. I think Homewood does, too, but you have to reserve it in advance. Not sure about Squaw. Another option...NLT is one of the few places I've seen where people still hitchhike. Every morning there are lots of riders along the road with their thumbs out. Not sure how efficient it is, but it seems to work for them. I think there might be a bus to Northstar, too, but unless you're really into park, I'd avoid it. Super touristy, and very much like a Vermont Resort...just doesn't have that Tahoe/out West feel to it. No bowls, no wide open spaces, all just trails through the trees. It's like big shopping center with a mountain attached,

Alpine and Squaw merged? What happened to Homewood? They bought Alpine a couple of years ago...are they still affiliated? I know there is a Kirkwood/Alpine/Homewood season pass...where does Squaw fit in? Hmm...gonna have to Google this one.

well i think i can snowboard pretty well. i think i'm hitting up on my 5th season now, but i feel that i'm not too big of a fan with the trees. more of a fan with the blue runs where you can just book it down and cruise. last season i started getting into the terrain park though so that'd be cool to check out too, so probably hit up northstar for a day or so...is it strictly park there? well...not strictly but is it noticeable that it's for that type of snowboarder? i'm sure there are some blue runs for those that don't wanna hit the park all day?

I beleive you can still get the Kirkwood/alpine/homewood pass, but if you buy a pass at squaw it's good at alpine, if I remember too lift tickets are interchangeable? And their going to have a shuttle going back and forth between the two.

that's awesome. i will definately be going there for a day then...now...as for resorts...which ones do you guys recommend? preferably ski-in/ski-out but if i'm moving mountain to mountain, it would make more sense to stay in a resort outside of the hill?

Ski-in/ski-out, your best choice is Northstar, if you can find a good deal. Neither Alpine or Homewood have condos or apartments (another reason I like them). Squaw has tons of lodging, but probably pretty spendy. Northstar at least has the whole village thing going on, with a skating rink, bars, coffee shops, and I'm pretty sure they can arrange transportation to the other mountains. Sugar Bowl is awesome, but it's not as close by as the other mountains.
