Default Mammoth Mountian early Jan

I'm going to crash with my buddy who just moved there and is about 5 mins from the gondola. Its going to be my first time out there. Any tips or pointers about Mammoth? Any places or terrain to hit up, or "shacks" to visit?

Hey man,

It's looking pretty bleak up there. I could point you to my favorite spots but none of them have enough snow to be ridable. I used to live a 5 miunte walk from the village too It's a great lifestyle.

45 runs of manmade snow. Might be ok if you want to ride park, otherwise

Just got back from 8 days there. The snow drought has been rough up there. Most of my favorite runs aren't open, but still had a lot of fun ripping around the mtn.

The parks are in pretty good shape most of the day. If you're going to ride cornice bowl, do it as early as possible. The groomies are fun to carve up the first 2-3 hours of the day. After about 11am expect to be riding on crud. There'll be icy wind blown patches, midday/afternoon slush, and random rocks kicked up on some runs.

Mammoth Brewing Company is great after riding. 10 free beer samples of really good brew, and it's totally worth picking up a growler or two. They're across from the village, but close at 6.

I can't believe how sad Mammoth is this year after the epic snow last season

Well, sorry I haven't kept you guys posted on this trip but, I bumped my trip back 2 1/2 weeks. I arrived here on saturday night just a few days after they received the +55" of snow. Mountain is almost 100% all chairs spinning but 1.

I will say this, besides some thin coverage near the summit, the place is rocking with some soft packed powder. The backside of the mountain is open but everyone id saying stick to the lower half the conditions are much better. My friend who I'm staying with is saying the same thing, he doesn't even want to venture up there. All in all this trip has been amazing, blue skies everyday with good conditions. Lets hope they get another storm in the next week or so..

Think Snow!

and thanks for the import!

I was up there this past weekend. A lot of fun riding to be had. Good thing you waited to go, the conditions are so much better now. You should definitely check out the backside. Not a lot of people go back there. There were still groomed runs at 3pm on Sat to be had. And the off trail stuff isn't as choppy as most of the front.

Looks like there's a chance of snow showers Wed night too.

We checked out chairs 13 and 14 for a hit today, touch a bit of the backside as well. I had an awesome time, i def loved the wide openness of the entire mountain.

Next weekend a disappointing Okemo Mt. in Vermont =( I'll miss it here, my flight is at 10:35am tomrrow morning

Any updates? Supposed to hit Mammoth at end of March but might cancel the trip.
