I live in San Francisco and this is my route to Kirkwood, 80 -> 50 -> 88 -> Kirkwood. I have only gone to Kirkwood (and loved it!) on cabin trips because with the route that I know, it just takes way too long to do a day trip. It's a good 4 hours one way.

Is there a faster route to Kirkwood? Thanks!

Count your blessings. It takes me that long in traffic to get to Bear Mountain, which is a pea shooter compared to tahoe/denver/slc.

Not sure if it's "faster" from SF...580>205>99>88. 3 hours from Pleasanton.
I avoid 50...too slow and trafficked
