Well being that Joel is a meteorologist I'd expect that from him. If you read the link youd see it says climate prediction center, which is what a Climatologist does. If you want to know what a storm is going to do, listen to the Meteorologist. If you want to know about the factors driving storms, listen to the climatologists. So its safe to say that these outlooks are just outlooks. They are based off of observational data, Like the fact that Equatorial waters are warmer then they have been in recent years. Which indicates a El nino pattern that dictates the pattern storms and weather systems follow. Not snowfall totals and current temps.

Climatologists can "sort-of" predict ENSO by looking at ocean temperatures in a couple of spots out in the Pacific. Like meteorologists they are not always right, but there is a general pattern which indicates where the jet-stream is going to hang out. FYI you want the jet stream to be near you, it sends you precious gifts of Pow.

I understand that they are outlooks based on data, but I'm very skeptical... Last year was La Nina so the Rockies were supposed to do well. Summit got screwed, but Southern CO got pounded. Ill take it one week at a time once the season is here...

Damned us mid westerns deserve more snow than you guys. Tired of crap winters and riding all man made snow and ice. Moving is not an option either. Wish I could afford a trip but just not in the family budget

Well, hopefully I can get the same luck as last year. My frst time boarding I happened to be blessed with 2 feet of fresh powder. I went as often as I could find the time... And each time I was blessed with atleast 6"+... And apparently it was a horrible season here in SoCal
