Well I know were not even out of July yet but if you search El nino on Google News. You can find articles around the world suggesting a Moderate-Weak El Nino. Ive also read articles from carribean countrys suggesting concern that this season might be a repeat of 97. Temps in the the pacific waters are forecasted to be warmer then they have in recent years. Hope this all pans out for us out west as last season was horrible. Last time we had a good el nino in AZ we got a 10 ft+ dump over 3 days at Snowbowl and Sunrise.

It's been nothing but rain and slush here the past week and a half, let's hope that carries on into the cold months :D

Just saw it on the local weather FB page. El Nino is out, and a neutral year is in. Neutral is very good for us out here in the PNW. The potential for big storms greatly increases. In fact, almost all of the major storms that we have had over the years have been in neutral years. Check it out Cliff Mass Weather Blog: A Faltering El Nino

Bear might get hit with snow again this week, and Mammoth got over a foot the other day, with their opening day being Nov. 8th. So far....i'm not complaining

El Niño stalled out last month, leaving neutral conditions in place in the tropical Pacific."

Why El Niño stopped, forecasters said they don't know, but that it's unusual.
"This is incredibly unique in roughly 60 years of data,"

Halpert said it now appears that 2012 is on track to be the warmest year in the 118 years since forecasters started keeping records.

For now, an El Niño watch remains in effect because there's still a window of time for it to emerge.
Hoping for cold and not the crap we had last year

Midwesteners be afraid not, I have snowboarded 3 times in October this year( 2 times on natty snow (including today)) we have been getting regular snow weekly and our precip patterns typically persist and improve throught the winter. I'm predicting massive lake effect.

A couple of months ago I was reading NOAA reports on El Nino regarding the SW area and the reports showed a whole lot of winter conditions following Nino, even though Nino's passed. I was very skeptical at first, but it looks like it's completely accurate.

They mentioned something called the North Atlantic Oscillation...a counter-clockwise wind pattern that's centered in the east-ward area of the United States. This "fan" is pushing El Nino further south while giving the Southwest the weather from the central north....which is a lot of snow and rain. La Nina is a long ways out...and I hope will never come back.

I was just in Bear the week before christmas(18th-22nd.) And conditions were decent. Temps finally dropped so they could finally start making decent snow round the clock. They also got several inches, so conditions were pretty good.

I just checked the weather and they're getting back-2-back storms. The one this week, followed by one coming next week too. Cank wait till my blackout dates are over.
